Teething ibuprofen

Baby showing all signs of teething- really off his bottles in the day, okay with food tho, waking in night and dribbling etc.

It’s been going on a week now and have given him ibuprofen every night as without it he won’t touch his bottle or sleep.

I’m starting to feel guilty tho. No sign of teeth poking through yet and I’m wondering how long he should be on ibuprofen for- he just has one dose at night

I think the longest I’ve gone is a week. Are the teeth showing OP?

skankingpiglet · 31/08/2018 19:40

Would Anbesol or teething gel make any difference? Or even calpol rather than ibuprofen?
I think a week is too long too.

Thank you both for your responses

@JiltedJohnsJulie anbesol doesn’t touch the sides 😢

@skankingpiglet sort of I sound thick, but why is calpol better? Is it just seemed less of a harsh painkiller?

Sorry @JiltedJohnsJulie- no which is weird as considering the pain I thought they would be by now

Have you tried the anbesol liquid or gel? The liquid is much much better. But my little one is teething too atm and we keep resorting to nurofen as well.

rubyroot · 31/08/2018 21:18

@Bluebell93- the liquid. I don’t know how else to get him to have his milk at night, he’s already I’m reduced milk at day. But then I worry about what a dose of nurofen a day (for a week). could do too Shock. I guess the good thing is he’s only had a dose a day, rather than the maximum 4 doses

Rubyroot they act on the body in different ways. Ibuprofen would be preferable for me with teething as it reduces inflammation, but a week of it is a long time. I wouldn't want to go heavy on the calpol either but it would give a break from the ibuprofen whilst still reducing the pain.

One single dose at night isn't going to do much harm. If you were giving it every 6 hours for a week I'd definitely say to give it a break. Try calpol instead, for a day or two.

If you were really concerned about the amount of medicine he's having, you can try alternatives. My DC like gumming cold bananas. I'd stick them in the freezer for 10-15 minutes and that would help them better than medicine.

Thanks all, went without last night. Made silly noises whilst he had his bottle- it worked. He didn’t want it but the noises distracted him!
