Help - what can baby drink when abroad?

Does anyone here happen to know what type or brand of bottled water is suitable for an 8 month old baby to drink when abroad?

Baby’s first time abroad and I’m starting to panic!

They shouldn’t need a lot of water at that age, aren’t they usually still on formula/breast milk rather than water?

Depends on what country you are going to as to the safe brands.

Check the mineral content on the label - Evian is definitely fine.
There should be less than 200mg of sodium per litre, and less than 250mg of sulfates per litre.
Don't bother using bottled water for making up formula if the tap water is safe (www.mappingmegan.com/travelers-guide-to-safe-tap-water-countries-with-unsafe-drinking-water-can-i-drink-the-water-in/). If you need to use bottled water, you still need to boil it.

Breast-fed baby but is also on solids. I’m just worried ds will need more water if it’s very hot. We’re going to Spain!

Evian is definitely ok and you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding it. Volvic is also fine. The distilled water brands you often find in the US (like Dasani) are also ok. Where are you going?

Monger that’s very helpful, thank you Smile

You can buy Lanjarón, Beyoz and Font Vella water in Spain, which have low mineral contents.

Thanks lichen just to Spain! I thought travelling was meant to be easy with young babies.. Hmm

Don’t forget that your BM will probably change in the heat. It’s not unusual for the first part of your BM to look clear when it’s hot as it will change to help to quench LOs thirst.

At 8 months tap water is fine. If you are going to a country where you're recommended not to drink the tap water that's different but in Spain tap will be fine

Northernbeachbum · 03/09/2018 13:37

Sorry to jump on this but does that mean that making formula in Italy we can use tap water? DS is 3 months so i really dont want to get it wrong

DappledThings · 03/09/2018 14:13

I thought you had to boil water for bottles anyway so yes it would be fine. But I've never made up a bottle.

Northernbeachbum · 03/09/2018 14:14

Yes we always boil the water, i cant imagine the formula powder disolving otherwise although ive never tried it!

DappledThings · 03/09/2018 14:34

Boiled water will be fine anywhere

NameChange30 · 03/09/2018 14:36

Make sure YOU drink plenty as baby will probably breastfeed more and your breastmilk will have a higher water content to keep baby hydrated

Happy holidays! not that there is such thing as a holiday with a baby

Great news, thanks! Sorry for the hijack op
