I am having a brain melt because its been so hot i have lost all sense of what to put DS in. I am trying to stock up for thr next age. All i can think is when he was tiny he had vests etc.

Should he be in vests now? Hes currently in a tshirt joggers and a hoodie. Is that enough? Confused

Should I buy long sleeve vests

I only ever had short sleeved vests /bodysuits for mine. I don’t think a vest is necessary at that age in this weather and what he’s wearing now sounds fine.

Deadheadstickeronacadillac · 29/08/2018 08:10

DS at that age lived in cheap joggers and long sleeved vests with jumper/zip up fleece as needed. He was at nursery 5 days per week so needed comfy clothes that could get dirty.
Dd is just about to start nursery and will be in exactly the same!

Carboholic · 29/08/2018 08:16

I like vests (both long and ahort sleeved, for layering) because they mean that when DS is playing / climbing / attempting to stand on his head, his back and tummy stay covered. But then again, I am a "wear a second, tucked in Tshirt under my outside Tshirt at all times unless it's absolutely boining outside" kind of person, so I'm probably projecting my clothing needs...

The general rule should be "1 layer more than you" for babies, at some point becoming "as many layers as you" for children. So if you'd be comfortable in joggers, a Tshirt and a hoodie, he'll be fine too.

Ah OK. I have a tonne of long sleeved tops lined up (ebay job lot) and trousers plus a few jumpers and hoodies so that should be OK? I also have 10x short sleeved vests but maybe they wont be used unless cold enough to go under the long sleeve tops...mine field! I'm terrible at sales shopping Blush

And on to sleep wear....

SoupDragon · 29/08/2018 08:24

Sleepwear is easy - babygros! Mine had thicker ones for winter but that’s about the only difference.

Jellybabie3 · 29/08/2018 08:29

With no vests? I am sure when DS was tiny he had about 3 layers!! 😂😂

Yeah I am thinking PJs or sleepsuits and his sleepbag (i have different togs).

Thanks all

On the cooler days recently DD has been wearing

  • Leggings or trousers, Sleeveless vest, t shirt and cardigan
  • leggings or trousers, long sleeve t shirt and cardigan
  • long sleeve vest and dungarees

When it gets to the colder weather I am a fan of short sleeve vest with jumper over

We only seem to wear long sleeved vests under dungarees but they’re also useful for layering.

I’m terrible at shopping ahead too! Love an eBay bundle but theres always guesswork of how quickly they’ll grow and what season it will be!

FWIW DD stayed in 9-12 month clothes for quite a while and 12-18 month seem to be lasting her even longer (I guess growth rate is not as rapid as when tiny). She is 15 months now, still wearing a couple of 9-12m things. So in 9-12m clothes she crossed over seasons. I think you’ll be fine with what you’ve described!

Magpiefeather · 29/08/2018 08:37

Sleepwear:

We keep the room at 19 degrees ish (only know as it says on the baby monitor!) - DD is in a sleep suit with no vest under and a 2.5tog grobag. She is fine and not too hot or cold. If the room is any colder than that she gets cold hands (but her body is fine), and any more layers she feels too warm and gets sweaty hair!

Jellybabie3 · 29/08/2018 08:48

Yeah @Magpiefeather I have guessed wrong with a few bits from ebay. DS is still in some 6-9 stuff but is just starting to switch fully to 9-12. That said I brought a load of 12-18 sale stuff yesterday but nothing too wintery so atleast if hes on the small side he can use them next spring

I think i will leave buying any more vests until i see what size he ends up...i have all these short sleeved ones to last a while....

By the time I get to 12-18 I will have heaps of stuff hoarded...I am terrible

I've been putting ds (10 months) in a t shirt , jogger's and a hoodie to go out. Obviously socks too.

For next season he has short sleeved vests , t shirts and more joggers. I have a fleece jacket and a thin hoodie too. I just need to get him a proper coat and hat for the colder weather. I have mittens already.

For bed I've bought him pjs as I can't be trying to do up poppers while he crawls away from me!

MagicFajita · 29/08/2018 08:59

*joggers

Lana1234 · 29/08/2018 09:43

My 11mo DS is currently living in long sleeved tops, joggers and socks and a hoodie for outside. For some reason I’ve got about 20 coats, jackets and body warmers for the winter (I don’t even know where they’ve came from) so sorted there 😂 I was just thinking for colder nights a vest under his pjs because he will wriggle out of his blanket no doubt

TraceyLovesDanny · 29/08/2018 12:21

We have a little one who will be 1 in November and at the moment he is mostly wearing T-shirts or bodysuits with trousers or shorts if its a hot day.

On warm days t-shirt and shorts will be fine. On cooler summer/autumn days try a t-shirt and trousers but bring a jumper incase LO starts to get chilly.

Those 2 are all we are doing at the moment. Once it starts getting really cold we will get him another winter suit/all in one thing like he had last year. Also don't forget gloves and hat in those colder months.

For this time of year though I would just mostly say t-shirts and trousers with a jumper to hand. Always socks and booties/shoes on as feet tend to get the most cold. Try shorts instead of trousers if it's a heatwave day

BitOfAKerfuffle · 29/08/2018 23:08

DD is 2 and we still use bodysuits underneath everything to keep the nappy in place mainly and so she doesnt take it off herself in the night !! Yet refuses to use her potty still Hmm
On cold days in winter we would be leggings, short sleeved bodysuit, long sleeve top and a jumper or fleece and then a raincoat over all that if we are outdoors (i hate thick coats !)
At bedtime its pyjamas just normal not fleecy now with a short sleeve vest underneath or a long sleeve vest on really cold nights

Verbena87 · 29/08/2018 23:14

We’ve abandoned vests that popper underneath as he’s so active I never manage to get them all done up, so today he was in long-sleeved tshirt, denim dungarees, and socks. Cardis and hoodies kept handy for if it’s chilly.

For bedtime at the moment a babygrow and 2.5 tog bag (he wriggles out of covers unless he’s under the main duvet and between us in our bed, even if it’s freezing)

Jellybabie3 · 30/08/2018 07:54

Ah thanks. DS bedroom is stil about 21C atm so hes in a sleepsuit and 1tog bag..hope hes warm enough.

OP posts:
Verbena87 · 30/08/2018 07:57

That sounds fine. I think they usually wake up if they’re too chilly (hence bagging my wriggly one, as otherwise he escapes the covers then wakes up and wakes me up looking for a warm cuddle).
