Are baby wraps safe?

I know they are. I know mothers have used them in all cultures for generations without issue. I've bought one as newborn DD won't settle unless she's on me and now I'm doubting myself.

Have you used one? How did it go? Do you feel like you always need a hand on the baby so you're never truly hands free? Mine arrives tomorrow and I'm hoping it'll be a lifesaver but I'm also terrified because I'm an anxious mess about everything right now.

Sounds like a wrap or carrier will be great for you. As long as you follow the ticks guidelines (babyslingsafety.co.uk) and buy a reputable brand they are very safe. Maybe get some guidance from your local sling library if you are worried?

I bought a plus size cheap one with good reviews from Amazon and I'll follow all the advice. I think I'll be too scared to let go of one hand supporting the baby though! I mean, I guess they don't just fall out but in my head that's a distinct possibility.

I had one hand on baby initially, but before long was merrily cleaning the house and making lunch hands free and feeling like superwoman!
My little girl shouted a bit the first couple of times I got her into it, then she got used to it too and we both absolutely loved it.
Good luck!

I will second going to a sling library if there’s one near you - it put me at ease having an expert cast her eye over my carry and give me the thumbs up.

There's a sling library about 15 miles away so we'll definitely be utilising it if we can. It arrived today and baby and I went for a walk to the local shop in it. I had one hand on her at all times but she seemed very content against my chest. They do get very hot though (mine is 100% cotton and yet we were both quite warm when we got back in and she was only in a vest, sleep suit and hat).

How do you do it in the colder weather? Pram suit and do your coat up just underneath it?

They are amazing.

Follow the instructions - make sure they’re not too loose or low.

You feel the baby against your chest, so you ‘know’ they’re fine iykwim.

Pram suits too hot.

Leggings, cosy socks, little cardigan. If it was really perishing I’d sometimes tuck a blanket around the outside of the sling as a windbreak.

Is the hug hold okay for a newborn. I tucked her little head slightly under one of the straps for extra support so her cheek was against the top of my breast and her face was free along with my hand cradling her. She's 9 days old at the moment so I'm not sure if we should be positioning differently?

For winter get a coat or warm cardigan a couple of size to big, then were over the sling. Baby won't need coat of her own because she will be inside yours.
