My daughter is 14 months & seems to have contracted her first ever sickness bug 🙁 Yay. She has woken up & been sick 4 times since going to bed at 7pm. She's now only throwing up bile, I am just giving her sips of water after she's been sick & she's falling back to sleep right away. No diarrhoea as of yet. I feel so sorry for her!

  • how long do bugs tend to last in young children? 2-3 days?
  • do I not offer her any food/milk whilst she's still being sick?
Got a feeling we're in for a long night! She's in bed with me as I'm terrified she'll start being sick in her cot & fall back to sleep in it or worse choke! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Snap! My 14 mo has her first tummy bug too.
Been sick twice last night and once today.
According to NHS vomiting usually only lasts 2-3 days but diarrhoea can last up to a week.
She’s had some dry Cheerios and 1 bite of rice cake today. A few sips of water too. She’s still breastfed so I’ve been offering more than usual to keep her hydrated. If you still give breast milk or formula you can continue to offer it, maybe in smaller more frequent amounts than usual.
I think you can offer food if it’s been a while since she’s vomited. The BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apples, toast) is meant to be good after D & V.

Advice nowadays is not to limit food if she wants it. She can eat whatever she likes within reason. Withholding food or providing a bland diet won't shorten the illness or prevent vomiting.

She's likely to only want fluids whilst still being sick. Breast milk is perfect if you're still feeding but fluids in general are your focus. If she's still being sick, small sips or from a teaspoon/syringe little and often. Dioralyte rehydration sachets are good if she's slightly dehydrated.

Hope she's better soon. Sickness bugs are the pits.
