I went on a parenting course which siad it was a good idea to start at elast one new tradition just for your family which the children will remember affectionately when they have their own children. We have started haveing croissants as breakfast in bed (all 5 of us) on every family birthday. I wondered if anyone else had any that I could copy??!!

My family has so MANY traditions that we stuggle to find time to make up our own ....

They include

  • decorating Christmas tree on Christmas eve (only silver, gold & white decs)
  • we also have real candles on Christmas tree - candles are burnt down on 12th night (with betting!) (to these we have added - each child chooses one new christmas tree dec each year)
  • birthday table for presents set up and decorated when you come down, and place setting a breakfast decorated with garland of flowers
  • easter bunny shinanegans, plus decorating eggs and boiling in onion skins

I could go on, and on, and ariston....

Ah yes - birthdays - pressies put all over the birthday girl / boy's breakfast place at the kitchen table so it's all there when they walk in in the morning + tinsel / sparkly stuff. Same for easter eggs on easter morning.

Not a tradition really but I started a recipe book a while ago which I'll pass down.

Mercy how did you do it. We find that we go in to buy some tealights and come out with at least one billy bookcase, several lamps and a new chair!

we have dunky eggs for breakfast on a saturday - does that count?

BaffledByBabyTights · 08/06/2007 20:25

yes!!! Will your children remember that when they have children? I think so!
