really stupid questions about washable fleece wraps.....

have never used these modern newfangled nappies, but am thinking about it! how do fleece wraps work? can you use a terry square under them or do you have to buy the expensive ones? dont they make trousers wet or do they have a waterproof layer? are fleece liners made of the same stuff as the wraps? would you recommend the pretty tots bots fleece wraps and what should i use with them? if you dry pail do you rinse them first then just leave them with nothing but a few drops of tea tree?

told you they were stupid questions, there are just so many types its terribly confusing. i just want someone to tell me what to do, i cant cope with all this choice! [dim]

fleece are best for night or if just running around in a nappy during the day, they work by evaporation so putting close-fitting trousers on will just make them leak

do nothing other than dry pail and fling em in the washer

yes they are just fleece like the liners only thicker

I use a tots bots with them or a prefold

i've got the motherease airflow wraps. they're great, they've never leaked on me. you can order them at bumfluffs there's a link to them in the small buisness add section.

just ordered some cheap but lovely fleece wraps too from ebay, ann's handcrafts. i wanted a few nice fleece wraps as well, even though i'm a bit short of money at the moment they just look so much nicer in my opinion.

If you use a thick fleece wrap (bumsnugglers are the ones I use) they are find during the day as long as the trousers aren't too snug.

I really like Motherease Rikki wraps (velcro fastening and gussetted for excellent soft poo containment) but am finding that now ds is a bit bigger and is on solids the Motherease Airflow ones I have are coming into their own (popper fastening but adjustable at both waist and leg).

Flame · 06/06/2007 07:50

Yup, I always say that the rikki are best for newborns, and the move onto the airflow between 4&6 months

Yep I use the Motherease ones and think they're brilliant. First of all I thought I'd prefer the Rikki (velcro) ones but actually I find the Airflow (popper) ones far easier because with a wriggly baby, it can take ages to get a velcro one symmetrical (IYSWIM) whereas with poppers, you know where to aim for (I am absolutely crap with disposables because of that whole lining up of baby etc)

mistlethrush · 06/06/2007 15:44

We use fleece only at night - we've got poppered Nature Babies fleece now ds is older - he tends not to un pop the poppers, whilst he was always undoing his fleece totsbots wrap. We also find Nature Babies PUL wraps the best fit during the day - also poppered, with different fittings at waist and legs - they will even add poppers as a special order if you've got a thin-waisted baby. We find the Nature Babies wraps great over both prefolds and shaped - on shaped we have used Totsbots size 2 since ds 6mths and they still fit at 2.2. We use Bamboozles from Totsbots at night - would use them during the day too but take slightly longer to dry.

I don't know about anyone else, but we find washables much more reliable than disposables - to the extent that we sometimes put fleece wrap over a disposable if travelling.

Always feel smug in the supermarket of course!

bookthief · 06/06/2007 22:54

Lol Manictigger, now that you mention it I think that's exactly why I'm using the Airflows more now! Getting nappies on has become pure hell since ds started his flipping onto his stomach and rolling off the mat shennanigans.

Had to spend ages cleaning up after ourselves when trying to change a particularly nasty Weetabix nappy in the Boots Baby Room yesterday. Poo bloody everywhere, ds trying to skydive from the changing table thing...

doesnt fleece smell tho if it works by evaporation? and how do fleece liners work to keep the wet away from baby? do you find they are damp?

OP posts:
Flame · 07/06/2007 08:17

Fleece only smells at the end of the day. The liners work by the moisture going into the nappy and being absorbed, and then where the fleece is on top and doesn't absorb it, it keeps the skin dry.
