How much would you spend on a birthday party?

My friend's dd and my ds both turn 5 this summer.
She's planning on spending about £200 on her dd's birthday party and I'm aiming not to go above £100 (both budgets excluding presents).
Is she being extravagant or am I being mean?

Oh, God

It really does depend. Ask if she would like a really extravagant party and less gifts or more gifts but a smaller party. There are upsides to both. Think of a budget for her whole birthday - for example £200. If you spent £150 on a party you won't have as many presents but maybe that's what your dd would prefer Smile

I would say we probably spent about 200 last year for my dd's 4th. We hired a hall (no way I'm doing it in my house, we had house guests staying with us for the weekend so I had family sleeping in the lounge already), which was 30. We hired a bouncy castle, which was 90. Lunch for the kids, coffee/tea, and the cake (which I baked myself) probably 50 ish. A few decorations, bin liners and things for clean up after, probably just shy of 200. It was more than previous years, but absolutely worth it to not have to host it at our house or come up with party games and other entertainment. I would say that's the norm around here (in terms of size, activities, hall hire, etc.) so I suspect that's what most people spend in our area. It was for about 15 kids, plus 1-2 parents for each and then about 6 family, so close to 40 people.

But to add to the above, she only got a few small presents from us, so we didn't spent much more than the cost of the party on the whole day.

We usually spend £200-£300 by the time we've hired a hall, bouncy castles and done food and party bags. It adds up (but it's fun)

(blog.partify.co/how-much-should-i-spend-on-my-kids-birthday-party) I've came across this blog that talks about how much you should spend on kids' birthdays. It really depends. Hope this helps!

Depends what you do. I did a RYZE party and that was at least £300 for the minimum 10 people. Our local pool used to do a swim party for £60 but now has gone up to £115! We did the home parties and sleepover s. Depends on you want your home trashed or boys watching dodgy videos at a sleepover (I promptly took the iPad off them!!).

I paid about £200 but all I had to do was sent out invites and provide food. even gift bags included. my dh was ill and I was doing it solo with a baby so paid for ease.

Just over £200 for a softplay party at local leisure centre for 20. Very normal round here. Only been to one at a house and that put me off for life, utter chaos and the mess was unbelievable.
