Bathing baby in wetroom?

NinjaTurtleMikey · 25/08/2018 00:30

I’m disabled so I have a wetroom, meaning no bath or shower cubicle. I’ve been bathing my now 5mo in his bath on a stand but he’s extremely wriggly now and it’s getting almost impossible to bath him alone as I have to kind of tuck him (naked and wet!) under my arm whilst I grab the towel, all the while he’s kicking and thrashing and trying to roll over. Not unhappy at all he loves baths, but it’s a bit like taming a small, chubby crocodile I should think, but the croc only has 2 teeth.

He’s also getting really long for it and either kicks the edge (sending himself into the other edge), kicks the plug out or just puts his legs straight up out of the water completely 😂 he can’t sit up yet so it’s even more difficult.

I’d bath him in the kitchen sink but it’s next to the back door and there’s no radiators in my kitchen.

Any ideas would be much appreciated please! Bath time is absolutely key in his bedtime routine but it’s getting very difficult for me.

Or there's this one.

I would just sit him in a folded up small towel for showering as it is less slippy than a blow up insert.

I’ve just been looking at the Charli chair too; can apparently be used up to about the age of 2

Can you cover the floor of the wet room with a paddling pool? Then he can safely splash about in shallow water under the shower?

TattyFrench · 25/08/2018 13:33

Sorry, just realised he's only 5 months. I think the plastic shopping basket is good - this may be completely impossible but what about a plastic shopping trolley 🛒- like the ones in TK Max? I don't know how you'll go about acquiring one but it would be a safe height for you, higher enough sides so he can't fall out, water would fall through and then you can go shopping straight after Smile

Ooo, it's much cheaper here:

That’s fine, I use the shower but rather than a cubicle it’s just the shower in the corner and the whole floor is the (supposedly) non slip blue stuff like in hospital bathrooms.

Having a seat on the shower chair is also a good idea but I worry so much about him flinging himself about even with me holding him

I used to have a towel that tied round my neck and was like a big diamond shape, so I could pick the baby up, put over my towel-covered shoulder and then wrap up. Would that work for the 0.1 second gap maybe? It was one purpose made for babies, but someone handy with a sewing machine or even a needle and thread could just add two ties to the corner of any bath towel.

here's the one I had - it also kept me dry!: www.amazon.co.uk/Clevamama-Apron-Baby-Bath-Towel/dp/B006PASJAC

What about a bath seat to use under the shower? Or you could try using a big plastic storage tub as a bath and put the seat in it.

Can you maybe borrow one and give it a try when someone else is around to help out/ problem solve with you? You might put him on high chair and it feels awfully slippery/ unsafe. Or it might be fine. If someone else is around they can talk through solutions- 2 heads and all that.
I believe Asda do a very similar high chair.

Thank you everyone, my partner has just reminded me that we have the mamas and papas bumbo type seat, if I can convince baby to sit in it on the shower chair and I’ll hold him the whole time it may just work

I've been thinking about this on & off all day. Is there anyway you can set something up with a towel in it to put your DS straight into as soon as he is finished so you're not having to do the whole wet baby wrestling thing? Or does the whole room get wet?

NinjaTurtleMikey · 25/08/2018 23:22

Thank you for considering us, the whole room does end up being wet which is one of ththe reasons for the changer with bath in it

Bumbo fills me with fear on anything except floor.
Bumbo in very small paddling pool on floor? Remove shower head and put some water in, thus stopping whole room getting wet and slippery?
Do you have access to an OT? Maybe there is some kit they could lend you? This phase will be short, you don’t want to throw too much money at it.
