Do you enjoy the bedtime routine?

...because in all honesty, quite a lot of the time I don't really.
Call me selfish, but I just want my dd and ds in bed - pronto, so I can have some adult time, and begin to relax a bit.
I wonder if it is to do with being a SAHM, and being with the little darlings continually?
I can imagine some people just love tucking their little ones up etc, but my 2 are not remotely compliant, and bedtime is not any different.
Just wondered how everyone else deals with the night time scenario.

Yes, feel much the same and i only have one small one. am always amazed to see how slowly time passes during this hour - i think he's had 10 mins in the bath and it's 3. am adjusting to dh doing longer hours so no longer around at this time - feel shattered by end.

Oh good, I thought it was just me. I keep reminding myself that reading several stories and cuddling up with dd1 is lovely and I should treasure it, but honestly I'm usually knackered and want to get into the shower and wander off towards dinner/telly/novel/Mumsnet

I made dp do it this evening so I could get on mumsnet quicker. Enough said.

That advert springs to mind (don't know what it's for though... so it hasn't done it's job!) when the parent ends up speed reading the bedtime story!
I sometimes cut huge chunks out, but dd is getting wise to it now (dam those school reading schemes!)
Glad it's not just me!
Actuall dd (age 5) is still up- totally amazed by the gymnastics at the olympics.
Hopefully it will end soon!

I hate it. I think it's something to do with it being the end of the day, and you know that "your" time is going to start when they're tucked up. For some reason, I find it interminable, the only time I get really testy and on edge - it's like I just can't wait to get them safely into bed so I can run away and do my own thing - whatever that may be. It's the same feeling you have at 5.28 when you have a train to catch and your boss suddenly decides s/he wants an indepth conversation with you about something you just don't want to think about until 9.30 tomorrow...

jellyhead, your kids will grow up thinking that twinkle twinkle... is unbelievably boring, when everyone around sings at 'normal' tempo!!!!
Then again, maybe normal tempo is about the same in every family!!!! (speeded up like they do in those Ibiza disco mixes!!)

Unicorn

I don't think its exclusive to SAHM, as I work, and still hate bedtime, mainly because my three never want to go!!!!!

It's amazing how stressful bedtimes can be. I suppose dd is overtired at the end of the day, and then misbehaves. And of course, my patience is wearing thin by that point too. There are power struggles (brushing teeth, etc.), delay tactics (protracted time sitting on the potty, asking for socks on, fan on, etc.), and battles of the will. There are quite a few evenings where the biggest conflict of the day happens just prior to bedtime. I have visions of warm, cuddly, close times where we talk/share, etc - but so often it ends in tears. She can't/doesn't do as asked, kicks off, and I end up gritting my teeth while closing the bedroom door while a little one crys hysterically. I'm always relieved and a bit surprised when we have a calm bedtime scenario, because they are rare.

JB maybe you should do your own megamix..
including 'the massacre of Brahms' lullaby' and 'rockabyebaby in the style of the russian army march' etcetc
(the kids will scream, No more!!!)

thank God.. gymnastics over, dd has been somersaulted to bed!
A VERY large wine for me (oh this isn't the bar is it... naughty me, I'm in Parenting whoops!)
