12 week vaccinations.. how bad?

My baby girl has her second set of jabs tomorrow (one jab and rotavirus). I'm feeling so anxious because the experience was pretty traumatic first time round. I'm hoping that as it is just the once jab this time it'll be a lot better as I can quickly comfort her. What were your experiences?

I was very anxious for the 12 week injections but they weren't as bad as the 8 week ones! Still horrible to see LO going through it but not as bad as there is only one injection! Good luck for tomorrow xx

A brief cry, slightly more fussy for an hour and quickly soothed By Calpol. It was a bit of non-event really. And she got protection against some horrible diseases, so it was more than worth it.

Hope all goes well.

I was anxious too, they go through so much for being so small. My lo cried for a short time but once we was out of the room was fine. Had some calpol and had a good sleep and just wanted extra cuddles.

Not at all bad! The 8-week and 16-week jabs are worse, as they get MenB, which can cause a temperature. The 12 week should be a non-event and does not require Calpol.

lizzyttc2017 · 23/08/2018 10:49

It was fine! Just a few seconds of crying and she's asleep now. Fingers crossed she will be fine as no Men B jab :) just need to get past the 16 week one now 😩

Should I give her some calpol when she wakes 'just incase' or only if I notice she gets a temp?

So glad they went well (as well as they can go!) gave mine some calpol just in case! Lots of cuddles today Smilexx

Poor love Sad jabs can't be nice when you're so little and don't understand what's happening. They do forget though, the minute it's happened!

I probably wouldn't give Calpol unless they get a temperature, as all Calpol does is reduce your temperature. It's not a sedative or anything like that. But if you want to give it anyway there's no particular harm either.

NonJeNeRegretteRien · 23/08/2018 15:48

Sad my LO had hers today too. Can’t believe the 16 week ones are worse. 😩

rubyroot · 23/08/2018 17:42

I didn't find the 16 weeks one worse, for us it was the and 12 due to the rotavirus live vaccine making him have diareah and sickness

rubyroot · 23/08/2018 17:44

8 and 12

Give Calpol, it's paracetamol so is pain relief. We are always a bit sore after a flu jab or similar so help the little one out.

For the next round, I would recommend giving Calpol 20 minutes before the jab and keep it up every 6 hours for 24 hours and that'll stop a fever and the worst of it. Good luck!

lizzyttc2017 · 23/08/2018 21:16

She's not been very well bless her, less smiley and a bit vacant and she's just woken up where's she usually sleeps until at least 1.30 when she goes to bed for the night. I've given her some calpol so hopefully that helps. I wasn't expecting this as there was no men B jab and she wasn't really affected other than a slightly raised temp from the first set. Hoping she feels more herself again tomorrow. Will I be okay to continue giving her calpol tomorrow if she doesn't seem we'll still?

She's been quite moany and teary also and wanting to feed and be held lots

Her temp keeps reading low too .. like 35? She doesn't feel cold though, her body feels warm. Not sure if it's dropped because she is fighting off a virus? I have a cold so not sure if it's that she's caught and not the vaccine at all? x

NonJeNeRegretteRien · 23/08/2018 22:35

Maybe her temp dropping is the calpol working... my LO had temp of 37.7 this arbor which after calpol went down to 36.9, do you know what’s normal for her? How does she seem in herself now? X

The rotavirus one can make them feel a bit crappy but shouldn't give a fever. Keep up with the Calpol and be super careful about washing your hands.

loopylou1984 · 24/08/2018 06:51

Your babies temperature should not be as low as 35. What thermometer are you using? Can you test your own temperature to check it's working properly?

If you're confident you are getting accurate readings then I would take her to the doctors this morning. More like though is that the thermometer is not in her ear correctly, this has happened to me a lot. Their ears are so small and fiddly!

lizzyttc2017 · 24/08/2018 08:54

Think it's the thermometer, mine came out at 35 too, it's the tommee tippee ear thermometer. She's woken up happy but with a runny nose and rattly chest plus coughing and sneezing so I'm pretty sure she caught my cold I've had rather than it being the vaccine, just a coincidence it's all happened at the same time 😅 I'm going to pick her up some calpol saline spray today
