Double buggy with two year age gap?

Hello

I know this has been asked before but I can’t find a recent post in last few years about it so I thought I’d ask again.

Second baby due end of September when dd turns 2. She’s pretty good at walking but she’s easily distracted (and slow because of it!) and gets tired quite easily.

We have a Bugaboo Buffalo and used it so much with the bassinet when she was little.

Debating whether to....

  • get a double
  • get a buggy board for toddler
  • just have new baby in sling/carrier

Get a Phil and Teds double decker 3 wheeler pram -absolute god send for me with 18month age gap. They both loved it and I got so much use out of it. They're usually not too steep second hand on eBay, you can buy a cocoon type thing for new baby and they can both go in top or bottom. 18 month old used to hop in and out as he pleased. I've got 2 saddle bags for sale that go on the side if you end up getting one 😀

Same age gap here, we've got a mountain buggy duet and a sling which I chuck underneath as baby sometimes won't settle in carrycot. Love the buggy though and narrow enough to fit through most doorways, that was a big selling point for me

I have Phil & Teds double then when older one is even older, used a buggy board. Handy to be able to have 2yr old in pushchair because trying to stop them running off when you have baby in a sling isn't easy!

I actually put the toddler in a sling when she is tired or we are by a busy road. Because most of the time she’d walk it kind of made more sense to me. If you get a connecta you can use it on your front for baby and on your back for toddler very easily so you have all options available. The “baby” size one is generously sized and is fine for a back carry for quite a big toddler.

and the connecta folds up really small so I just tucked it in the pram basket when not using it. My baby is generally very happy in the pram bassinet so this arrangement works well for us.

I have a 19 month gap. I carried on with the si gel pushchair and baby in a sling. Then I have 2 options, a little buggy with buggy board for town (It's clean......) and a Phil and Ted's for everything else. They both love to walk, and tend to take it in turns in the front seat while the back seat is ace for bags and stuff.

I have a 2 year age gap also and I have an uppababy pram. It is a single pram that I got "twin adapters" for that allows you to attach a second seat. One seat is much bigger than the other so my 2 year old goes in that. Soon I plan on taking away the second seat and just using it as a single with a buggy board. I really liked that I can use it as a single as my eldest gets older. It's so easy to push and it's a tandem type model so it's easy to get through places (like shops! I don't know how people with the side by side doubles do it!)

Depends how much walking you do. It would definitely make things easier at the beginning, but depnding on your older one it might not be necessary for more than a few months. Mine started point-blank refusing to go in buggies at around 2 and a half.

I had a 23 month age gap between my 1st 2. To begin with, I put a cushion in the space between the baby's feet and the end of the bassinet (under the firm top cover) and the older one perched there when he got tired or I needed to get somewhere quickly. By the time the baby's legs were too long for that to be OK he preferred his balance bike anyway. I used to sometimes loop a scarf round the handlebars to help him up hills (we live at the top of a hill) or to have a bit of control over him when close to busy roads. Called it a "tow-rope" to make it acceptable for him.

Between my 2nd & 3rd I had a similar age gap. We got a buggy board but never used it, because I found it made me walk in a very uncomfortable semi-stooped position. Luckily the balance bike came to the rescue again. 1st one was pedalling by then.

4th one is due in January, when no. 3 will be just over 2. I'm reading this thread and wondering why I never even considered a double buggy til now (thought they were only for twins! Silly me...)

I have a 2 year age gap. I bought a double out and about nipper second hand when youngest was born. I probably used it for the grand total of about 4 months, they both decided they didn't like being in it at the same time! DS1 would complain about being in it, kicking and banging and then of course DS2 would start crying, not sleeping in it etc because his brother was being annoying. So I just put DS2 in the pram and made DS1 walk everywhere Grin

It's definitely worth having one in case and I found it helpful in the early days when I was post c-section and couldn't drive. But I personally wouldn't buy brand new.

23 month age gap and I used sling/wrap for baby at first then switched to baby in pram and toddler on buggy board. Does your 2 year old still nap? It's worth thinking about what you'll do if they both need to nap when you are out and about. My friend had the Phil & Ted one and it is great. Not too bulky and easy to manoeuvre.

I bought a double buggy (one behind the other type) for 22 month age gap. Toddler hated it and walked everywhere from then on - reins very much needed and used.
