Might want to clean your floor first.

you can try, but my 2.8yo dd does both and is still unable to make it to the potty on time after a week of training.

Wasn't planning on dashing out to buy multiple potties or binning the nappies quite yet!

Could be? Maybe give him a sticker if he goes on the potty. He's a clever little boy though by the sounds of it

Ulysees · 04/06/2007 16:11

You could sit him on it whilst you clear the nappy away, just to give him the idea and take away any fear.

Tigana · 04/06/2007 16:12

I'm just grateful he is saying "oooh nooo" when he pees on carpet rather than copying what mummy says when he does it .

lmao

we found that lots of talking about it meant that it was easier. ds was doing poos in potty from about 18 months then wees at nappy changes at about 22 months i think. at 24 months he decided he didn't want nappies anymore and 6 weeks later has around 1 accident a month. don't let people tell you they are too young if you think they are ready. ds likes getting stickers too! definitely go for the cold turkey once you decide to stop nappies though imo! - maybe once you get him used to potty and nappies are fairly dry between changes.

I'm a big fan of early potty training so I'd say give it a go. Take advantage of the warm weather to have lots of nappy free time and make a HUGE fuss when he wees/poos in the potty.

FWIW my DD1 was dry at 18 months and DD2 uses the potty and says wee-wee already at 14 months. Don't believe the HV/Pampers 'wait until 2 yrs old' hype!

GateGipsy · 06/06/2007 16:12

hmmm in my experience girls do it so much younger. My neice potty trained herself pretty much at just over a year old.

DS is 2 and has started to tell me when he is about to go poo and when he is about to go pee. I tell him to go on the potty and he does - but he gets off and goes on the floor! We've no carpets, so that's not a problem really. What are the experiences of others with boys? Should I just leave it, taking advantage of the warm weather, and wait for him to make the connection himself?

laundrylover · 06/06/2007 16:18

I think that there is some truth in the girls are easier theory but my cousins boys trained very early and the youngest did it himself. They were in disposables too...my girls have cloth nappies which again makes for earlier training in general.

I think that at this time of year a bare bum approach is worth a try but with no huge expectations etc.

I'm not pushing DD2 much as I love washing my nappies and I know I'll get really broody when she's out of them!!
