Germophobia?

We recently had a baby girl. My wife asked me last week to wear a surgical mask to hold our baby at home, which I did but I hurt by this. A couple of nights later I was told I couldn't sleep in the same room because of a sore throat. I ended up going to my dad's for the night. No visitors are allowed until after the 1st set of vaccinations. I feel this is irrational but I welcome your comments.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yes it is. 'Normal' germs help to build and strengthen the immune system. Gently suggest she speaks to HV/GP about how she is feeling ASAP, as this already sounds as though it is spiralling.

It's utterly ridiculous! She must be obsessed. Was she like that before the baby was born? Get the doctor or health visitor involved - ask either of them to call round, as your wife is being unreasonable.

Is this new behaviour or has she always been anxious about germs? Are you still seeing a HV or can you arrange for one to visit to discuss this?

She could be experiencing OCD in which case she deserves compassion and help, not to be called ridiculous. Agree with PP about speaking to health visitor.

AssassinatedBeauty · 18/08/2018 18:54

Presumably she's also not leaving the house with the baby?

PotteringAlong · 18/08/2018 18:56

She’s being ridiculous and I’d actually call your health visitor because that is so far away from normal behaviour that I’d be worried about her mental health.

Oh goodness
Poor women must feel so anxious :(
Are you supporting her op ?
Would she see her gp ?

Bumdishcloths · 18/08/2018 20:59

Health visitor or GP involvement- sounds like OCD or could be the beginnings of post party's psychosis, she needs professional support.

Ffs, post partum, not party, sorry Blush
