on my own for the entire afternoon and evening. I did a few 'practice' runs of the bedtime routine last week where DH sat there on 'stand-by' incase it all went to pot - but today is the first time for real !

This happened to us many years ago, my DH had been out of work for 3 years when he started a new job hundreds of miles away so he was away for a month at a time.

It was really hard work the first few weeks but it soon becomes second nature.

How old are the DS's

fannyannie · 04/06/2007 11:53

6 1/2yrs, 3 1/2yrs and 11 days.........

Good luck. Don't forget, you can always let your standards slip a teeny bit if you find it all too much

Flower3554 · 04/06/2007 11:54

Mine were older, youngest was 3.10 years old. At least your DH will be home each night.

fannyannie · 04/06/2007 11:55

I know - I suppose I'm lucky in that until I get my mornings sorted he's prepared to get the older 2 DS's up and sorted as he works from mid/late morning to 9pm...

Good luck. I remember my panic at having all 3 when dd3 was tiny (mine were just 4, 2 and newborn).

Remember they don't really need baths. Or proper cooked meals. Or anything much.

fannyannie · 04/06/2007 12:00

actually they really do need a bath tonight - they're both covered in pen from 'colouring' yesterday (and DS1 is back at school tomorrow) and unfortunately my DS's (and DH) eat like horses so any dinner that is 'snack' proportions simply doesn't fill them up.

Ho-hum hopefully I'll get used to it sooner rather than later.........got to pop to Morrisons this afternoon too so at least that will be a good excuse for having done nothing around the house LOL

youll be fine.i remember bath time was my biggest worry,i had big panics on how to bath 3!but ofcourse i was panicking over nothing!goodluck!

fannyannie · 04/06/2007 12:10

bathing shouldn't be too bad - we have a downstairs bathroom and (hopefully if DS3 naps at the 'right' sort of time) I'll cook dinner while the boys play in the bath (can see them from the cooker).......it's just if he doesn't nap at the 'right' times arghhhh.

Well I suppose I'm not going to get anything done sat on here - better go and get the older 2 lunch before DS3 wakes up again.

the thing that help and saved! me was a sling.i was able to do anything with ds on me!so i knew he was safe etc.

fannyannie · 04/06/2007 12:12

I do have a sling - but he's obsessed with my norks ATM - so as soon as he's in it he starts rooting........even if he's just finished a feed and was content, so I can only get a tiny bit done before he's screaming for more LOL.

Good luck fanny you will be fine.

fannyannie · 04/06/2007 15:25

well so far so good (I think LOL).

Managed to get a load of washing on the line, been to Morrisons for a few bits and pieces, the boys (and me) have had lunch and DS3 is asleep in his pram (for now)...

Just need to get through the bath, dinner, bedtime bit with them and I'll be ok

Yeah just looked at your BA.

Well done on your fab birth. Thats amazing.
Lovely name too.

fannyannie · 04/06/2007 20:30

phew - doing well so far - nearly went ar*e over tit earlier when the HV arrived at 4.30pm (apparently she'd tried to call - but of course I was out) just as I'd got DS3 settled again.

She's a LOVELY HV who first saw DS1 (who's now 6 1/2) when he was about 20 months old and we'd just moved here as my old HV was 'concerned' about his speech and had referred for an 'extra' check-up to make sure it was improving once we'd moved house. On her first visit she only spent about 10 minutes with us - but turned round and said to me "there's nothing wrong with him I don't know why they want to check him again" (which I already knew).

She was then equally fantastic with DS2........so I didn't have the heart to tell her to b*gger off and come back another day .

Anyhow, I've cooked the dinner (burger and chips so nothing overly fancy), bathed them, got them to bed, I've even eaten my own dinner........just waiting for DS3 to wake up He's slept LOADS today apart from when I needed him asleep of course - (yesterday he hardly slept and fed constantly lol) and then I'll top and tail him (hopefully before DH gets home so I can sit and feel slightly smug ). Then it'll be time to put my feet up for the rest of the evening..
