Positive stories from births that didn't go as planned!

We were blessed with our first beautiful daughter Arabella five days ago.

After a 4 hour from first signs of labour to birth (with the hospital telling me multiple times that I should wait a little longer at home) we ended in an unplanned home birth with no medical assistance.
Despite everything when the ambulance arrived ten minutes later and took us to hospital we were told that it there were no complications at all! No stitches were needed and Arabella was perfect and healthy. She was two weeks early and the entire birth was nothing like we had planned (I wanted a water birth!) but still I've come out of it feeling incredibly positive. I know a lot of people don't feel that way though, so wanted to hear other birth stories that weren't as planned?

Hopefully this can spread a littler positivity and hope that even if absolutely nothing goes the way you want it to and at first seems like a complete nightmare, it often turns out to be wonderful in its own way.

I wanted a water birth, I planned a relaxing (lol) labour and delivery in my head and some ethereal water birth!

My waters broke at 6.30pm and had no pains at all so went to hospital at about 9pm. Got hooked up to a monitor as DD heart rate was too fast and they asked if I felt like I was having contractions as they was showing on the monitor to be getting quite regular around 11.30pm. By 12am contractions was in full swing, and by 4.45am I went from 4cm to 10cm dilated, told DP to run and get a midwife as i needed to push, was rushed back to the birth suite in a wheelchair and after 8 minutes of pushing she was born

It was insane, happened SO quick! the day before my due date.

But im glad it happened so quick as I had no time to panic and get myself worked up. Labour was horrific but the actual pushing was no where near as bad as I thought but I did end up with a 3rd degree cut as DD became extremely distressed. Shes now a happy 9 week old Smile

My mum went into early labor with my little brother when we were driving back from Scotland. We'd stopped at a supermarket with a petrol station and me and my older sister (7&10) were told to run around the carpark and stretch our legs while the car was filled up. Instead, we stole a shopping trolley and tried to ride it down a slope behind the supermarket (lead to an industrial-sized rubbish dump, by the way) only for the trolley to flip and for me and my sister to end up in hospital with my mother, me getting stitches and her being checked for concussion. We were miles away from home and my mother claimed she couldn't understand the strong Yorkshire accent of the midwife, got very upset that it was all going wrong and sat in the middle of the hospital corridor crying. It was an eight hour drive home the next morning.
The actual birth itself was very quick and relatively easy and my brother turned out pretty great. Xx

I got a very nasty bug and fever. Got told to come in for fluids then got sent down the country 112 miles. As we arrived I started with a little cramping. His heartbeat was to fast and my temp was 40° so they wanted to start labour. Turns out I was at 8cm 😂 so a couple of hours later my son was born. It was as good as it was going to be. Had to stay in hops for a few day after so wee one could have intravenous antibiotics as a precaution 😊

Um I got a healthy baby at the end of it?

When pregnant friends ask me about childbirth the one tip I give them is not to be hung up on a birth plan and just let them do what needs to be done to make sure both parties come through the birth safely.

The birth doesn’t matter. The outcome does.

TalTilly no one said otherwise, but sharing birth stories is interesting and this post is entirely positive, there is no need to come over all righteous.
I wasn't upset I didn't get my planned birth in any way, but my birth story is different from the way it was intended and I wanted to share it, as did others - that is all.
