Hello,

Im looking for some advice on how people prepare babies bottles at 10 months old.. my perfect prep machine has packed in and I don't want to buy another one as in 2months my son will be on cows milk.
How do people prepare their babies bottles when at home?

Do i still need to add his formula to boiling water now he's 10 months old? Or can i just use tap water now?

Any tips on how people found best to do?

The idea of making it all up the storing in the fridge seems a nightmare as my baby would completely refuse to drink cold milk he likes room temp.. also seems a faff to have to boil kettle to put bottle in a jug to heat it up.. if im boiling kettle i may swell just make a fresh bottle! HELP pleaseeee x

Can i just boil water then leave it out on the kitchen side to cool and just add formula to that?
how long can i leave water out for?

Can you do your own sort of perfect prep so first boiling water with formula and then top up with cooled water to make it room temp?

We just did a version of perfect prep ourselves.
Get sterilised bottle, fill with boiling water and stick in the fridge.
Each time you want to make a bottle put the formula in, add a couple of oz of boiling water from the kettle, shake, and then top up with cool boiled water from fridge. Makes a perfect room temp bottle, but you are still sterilising the powder by adding the boiling water first.
At around this age though we started to make up a bottle with pure boiling water and then stick in the back of the fridge to be microwaved when needed.
We did a batch for the whole day each morning.

Thats what we have been doing.. im filling up a bottle of pre boiled water and put it in fridge and then im boiling a kettle putting 3 ounces of boiling add formula, then i top up rest with the pre boiled fridge water.
Just a nightmare to have to boil a kettle every time.. i sound lazy i know.. its just he's 10 months now, does he need all the boiling etc?

Can i make up bottles with just water and leave on side or does all pre boiled water need to be kept in the fridge?

id like to boil kettle fill bottles with the water leave on side and then when he wants a bottle just add the formula to the water i prepared earlier? so room temp? I just don't want him getting ill because ive not added formula to boiling water or the water thats been sat out all day is bad.

Hope that makes sense x

I think even at 10 months it needs to be added to boiling water because it kills the germs. You could pre make them, store them in the fridge and then microwave them - be careful of hotspots

toasterstrudle · 14/08/2018 20:42

I did home perfect prep - boiling water shot in with formula to sterilise the powder then topped up with cooled water. I actually topped it up with tap water as it's safe for babies from 6 months in our area!

ah i didn't even think of the microwave! i always thought the was a no no but i guess thats purely because of the hot spots.

@Natalie2900 i make up all bottles night before with boiling water and put in the fridge.

Put in microwave for 30 seconds to heat up when needed
