11 day old formula feeding advice...

I have posted in infant feeding but wanted to post here also as I might get more responses.

DD is 11 days old suffering with wind a bit, started using infacol which is only mildly helping she will squirm & raise her legs during or after a feed so it's all classic signs of wind. However the main reason for this post is we can only ever get 1 ounce in her (occasionally 2) then she falls asleep, tried stripping her off, changing her nappy to wake her but nothing seems to work. On the odd occasion she does stay awake I try giving more she either isn't interested or she tries to take more but it's like the pain in her tummy is stopping her. Even when she has just the 1 ounce she can then go a few hours without wanting any milk despite me trying to wake her a good few times!
Anyone got any advice? When spoke to the midwife yesterday she recommended we changed the teat size & this still hasnt made a difference. I'm getting slightly concerned now as I feel she should be having more. Help please!

Which bottles, teats, milk are you using? Is she gaining weight?

Using the TT anti-colic bottles, using the slow teat, cow & gate milk. She'd gained 60g yesterday since her last weight check which was last Thursday.

1 ounce is fine. Try not to force her to feed. Her reaction may not be wind/pain. Don’t forget for 9 months she had no milk feeds so her gut has really got to get used to digesting milk and she has to get used to the feeling of it. I know this link talks about breastfeeding too but the bottle feeding bit is interesting.

My daughter was the same, would only have 60-70 mls max every 3-4 hours. We were admitted in scbu (for other reasons) and they pushed us so hard and made us so paranoid that she needed to be having more. But we couldn't physically force feed her!
In the end was unnecessary stress as she gained weight fine and increased her intake as the weeks went on.

So I'd try not to worry if she is gaining weight and wetting nappies :)

Thanks both. I just get anxious about her not getting enough milk. I don't remember DD1 being like this but she probably was.

Most babies I know struggled with tommee tippee bottles. You could try a different bottle. MAM and NUK are often liked by babies.
