Toddler's dirty protests...

Sorry for the disgusting topic!

My 1 (very nearly 2) year old is constantly taking off his nappy and smearing poo everywhere. If he poos I literally have seconds to get to him before his hands are in it. It's worse at night because he often goes to bed, poos, takes his nappy off and by the time I go up to check on him has wiped it all over himself.

I'm at the the end of my tether, he doesn't do it anywhere else but at home. When we're out he'll always just come to me and tell me he's pooed so I can change him.

What can I do to get him to keep his nappy on?!

I'm moving house soon and my new house has cream carpets. HELP!!!!!!

Vest with poppers on back to front.

Squigglypig · 08/08/2018 20:10

Cloth nappies? The ones I have with poppers are hard to undo.

Sorry posted too soon - he can take his vest off, and hates being hot so takes off anything we put on him at night!

He's like friggin Houdini- he can get out of every buggy, car seat, piece of clothing we own!!! I need something with a padlock on!!

Which cloth nappies have tough press studs? Worth a try!!

Maybe a vest with buttons might work!

Duct tape. Or one of those nappy covers with the poppers that are really hard to undo

jumpittyjump · 08/08/2018 20:16

You can buy special sleepsuits that zip up at the back and the top of the zip is underneath a piece of material and popper so they can’t get to it. A friend bought one online.
Alternatively a babygrow on backwards maybe? And inside a sleeping bag zipped up at the back?

emdude · 08/08/2018 20:16

What are the nappy covers? Might be worth a try!!

Toilet trained him? We trained DD2 at 20 months as she kept taking her nappy off.

jumpittyjump · 08/08/2018 20:18

In fact I also remember friend taping around the top of the nappy, but her LO could rip it off.
I reckon nappy back to front, baby grow back to front and sleeping bag back to front!

Squigglypig · 08/08/2018 20:19

Look up The Nappy Lady website, you may even be able to call her during working hours - lots of good advice on their. The cloth nappies I have have really strong poppers, sometimes I struggle with them!

jumpittyjump · 08/08/2018 20:20

So like this, but on backwards.

He's in pull ups, so can't put on back to front. And no baby grow or covers at night because it's about 30 degrees in our house! Maybe it'll get better when it cools down and I can put him in a babygrow again!!

I have the potty out, he pulls his nappy down and sits on it, but never does anything. Didn't potty train my eldest till he was nearly 3 (he wasn't ready), maybe he'll be ready sooner than expected?!

Slumbersac make a very lightweight summer sleeping bag with feet - it’s basically a sheet, which you can put on back to front and/or inside out and is fairly impossible for mini-Houdinis to get out of. I’ll see if I can find it...

Here: Slumbersac Summer Sleeping Bag With Feet 0.5 Tog Simply Owl 18-24 months www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01AZGWLKU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_3o0ABbFF65F04?tag=mumsnetforum-21 - be warned the sizing is massive - 75th+ centile 23 months DD is still in her 12-18 month one.

emdude · 08/08/2018 20:29

@NuffingChora I'm ordering one! Fingers crossed!!

We used large nappy pins to anchor the pj tops to the bottoms! I’d forgotten about that until I read your post. Some mornings I wanted to set fire to his bedroom....

IWantMyHatBack · 08/08/2018 20:45

Well, they're reusable nappies, but they're not bulky if they don't have the pads in them.

Multiple poppers, quite hard to undo. This is one, but there are lots on amazon, I think you can buy them in supermarkets too.
