Blankets for carrycots/Moses baskets

I’m a bit stumped as to what are the best blankets for using in carrycots (I have an icandy peach) and in Moses baskets.

I’ve got fitted sheets for the mattresses. I mean the blankets that will be covering babySmile I’m investing in tuppence and crumble star wraps, but I’m assuming they’ll need more than this.

Thank you for any help or suggestions. I’m out of my depth with all this!

Grobag type thing for night, just any small blanket wrapped around them in the day if you go outdoors.

My dc didn't get on with gro bags. We used cellular blankets. She was born in October and I found 2 cellular blankets was warm enough

I have some gro bags on standbySmile

Daft question, but I was hoping they will sleep in their pram carrycots during the day when tiny (I’m having twins) Would they need blankets over them then or will their clothes be enough? Like I say I’m utterly clueless with all this!

You might want a thin blanket indoors, I think we get a bit colder when we’re sleeping.

I like to be covered by a blanket because it makes me feel cosy and secure. I wouldn’t nap without a blanket so wouldn’t expect DC to either. I use knitted blankets during the day and have been known to cover DC with my hoody if there’s no blanket handy (it’s surprising how often blankets go missing).

When they were tiny, I used to swaddle then put a thin blanket or sheet on top, tucked in to the mattress to keep them in place. My babies liked to feel secure and wrapped up, but every baby is different! My niece would only sleep if she was wearing a snowsuit.

Once they got older I switched to grobags. My kids were still in them until they were 2/3 years old.

It depends on the baby, the temperature in the room, the time of year, how they feel on the day. It isn’t an exact science. Some like the weight of a blanket, others like the tightness of swaddling, some don’t want or need any of that and can sleep anytime, anywhere, anyhow (especially when dozy newborns). For example, a summer born baby in a warm room is less likely to need the warmth of blankets than a winter born in a cooler room. A lot of it is common sense and taking cues from your baby. A bit of trial and error.

Thank you for your advice everyone. It’s much appreciated. Like you say @Spork, I’ll have to see what babies are like once they are here.

Atm I just have some cellular blankets. Along with frou frou pram blankets and shawls knitted by eager grandparents. Not even sure what I’m supposed to do with the latterGrin

Baby born Dec- just left him in his sleepsuit in the day and growbags at night- which to be honest were a pain in the arse because I had to change his nappy after he fed all the time.

I had cellular blankets, I also used a little fleece blanket in the day sometimes. You will work out what works best when your baby comes.

Grobags are great now I don't have to do all the night time changing- 6 months
