My 8 month old is dry overnight?

I didn't think much of it, and just thought he didn't drink much before bed and so that's why he never wees his nappy during the night.

But I just read something that says it's a hormonal thing, and that you can't rush it because the brain will develop and mature by itself to tell itself to hold on to wees during the night.

So by the science of it, has my son already cracked this?

He's been doing it for roughly 4 weeks now.

Sorry if I sound a little deranged Grin But it makes sense, doesn't it?

I think it's more likely that he's getting a bit dehydrated in this heat wave so I'd tend to up his feeds/fluids.

Little He breastfeeds to sleep at around 8pm so I don't think he's dehydrated

Before that he would've had dinner shortly before which included a cup of water

That would worry me a bit. 8 months is very young as even it takes potty trained toddlers a while to be dry overnight sometimes. Does he have a wet nappy soon after her wakes up?

How much water is he drinking throughout the day? Is it more than usual to allow for the heat?

SwishyHairMummy · 08/08/2018 08:08

Acity Yes, about 5/10 minutes after waking he seems to do the biggest wee ever!

Annoyed He drinks quite a lot of water during the day, including lots of small breastfeeds here and there. He seems to be getting enough fluid and seems well hydrated

It's just at night that he's dry

No necessarily. DS was dry overnight before he was dry during the day at 2 years 9 months. I suspect he was dry overnight a lot longer than we realised as he was weeing when he woke up.

My daughters were like this. Dry day and night at 20 months for the eldest. My son was a very different proposition and at 7 I can’t trust him to be dry.

Mine was like this from about a year old. Took ages to potty train in the day, but was fine at night. Never wet the bed, rarely had a wet nappy in the morning as a toddler. He also rarely had a wet/dirty nappy when we went out - I only ever had to find a changing room when we were out for the whole day. He did this from very early on.

As long as your sure about hydration levels, I wouldn't worry

Mine went through a spell of this at a similar age. I was worried about dehydration but, like yours, he would absolutely saturate a nappy shortly after waking. Anyway, he's 14mo now and always wakes up wet so it didn't last!
