Family Scorecard

Hi Everyone,

I am shortly due to go back to work FT and my DS into nursery. I will be working FT for approx. 50 hrs a week, but of that about 5 hrs is flexitime. My DH works 50 hrs a week - typically 10.30am to 8pm.

I want to agree a family scorecard with my husband before I end up with the lions share of the work. I mean more than housework but things like how often we go out as a family, trips to the park, restaurant visits etc. The more I think about it, the more I've realised that if we don't set some rules now - well we'll end up in front of the TV all the time, and I'll end up doing all the housework.

Any ideas / suggestions for how you keep track of your families quality time would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Erm...... I can see why no-one has answered you!
A 'family scorecard' sounds very bizarre.

In terms of household jobs - what did you do before dc?
You are in an unusual position if he works those hours (and you've not said yours so I'm going to presume you start earlier and finish earlier?)
That sort of settles itself naturally into you being able to get up and get out whilst he sorts your dc, then presumably you will be able to then pick your dc up from childcare reasonably early, and do the 'after work' shift.
I don't think you should plan things like how often we go out as a family, trips to the park, restaurant visits etc. - see how things evolve. Working long hours with a all baby is tiring. There's nothing wrong with a bit of relaxing in front of the TV at this stage in your life.

I think it is a good thing to try to keep something ringfenced each week, where you do something to relax - be that a hobby, a sport, some volunteering, getting an annual pass for the cinema or whatever flats your boat - it is good to ring fence a bit of time to be "you", for each of you.
I don't think 'scorecard' is the way to go though .

He deals with breakfast and child’s lunches, clearing away any morning mess, dressing child and nursery drop off. Put a load of washing on.
You deal with nursery pick up, evening meal, clearing away after evening meal, bedtime routine. Hang to dry the washing.

Get a cleaner who does ironing.
