Can anyone recommend websites or books aimed at dads-to-be? There's so much info and products and so on aimed at mums, DH wants to read stuff that might be helpful for him or that at least acknowledges his existence lol! Any pointers would be much appreciated :-)

HI OP. I don’t know of much aimed at Dads, some of my DF did NCT classes and their DHs found the classes useful. He coukd ask himself on Dadsnet and there’s this article from the LLL.

I bought my DH a book called Commando Dad. He loves it!

hi, theres a really lovely article here, and the website itself is full of wreally useful information aimed at both mums and dads. theres another article on the website about some books. attachmentparenting.co.uk/stumbling-attachment-parenting-dad-delight/

There's an 'idiot's guide' for dads. I got it out of the library. We skim read it and got to a section where it suggested that in response to the pregnant partner being uncomfortable/hormonal/in pain the man should say "I appreciate your sacrifice". 🤔 This has become a bit of a joke between us now though I did nearly punch my husband when he said it when I was in labour.

I wouldn't recommend that one, which is a fairly unhelpful response but might save you from buying it if tempted.

My fella got something called "the dad pad" from mothercare, he read it more than once and took it in to the hospital when I was induced. It's not a proper book so you can flick to the bits you want easily :) he's doing a grand job as well! X

I think a lot of the stuff aimed at dads is really crap and patronising along the lines of "Snurk, boobs, beer, football" - I haven't seen much which is actually reasonable unless it's a general parenting book which isn't aimed at any particular gender.

There is a book called The Birth Partner I've been recommended but I didn't think DH would read it, so didn't buy it.

I thought this recent thread on Reddit was quite sweet.

My husband and a few of our friends have all found this useful:
The Expectant Dad's Survival Guide: Everything You Need to Know https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0091929792/ref=cmswwrcppapi_wv3zBbC6A03E4

They also do a new dads book too.

Babycentre.co.uk has a guide for dad's to be.

THIS!

Beyond the obvious parts of pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding there's nothing about being a dad which is gender specific. So if he's looking for a book about understanding those things then I'd say talking to partner is enough for those as their personal experience is likely more relevant than a book, I don't think telling a partner "Well my book says you're going to..." is actually helpful.

So stick with parenting books, and don't start the kids life and your change of circumstances with a load of gendered bollocks.
