How much would you pay?

For a day of childcare (8am-6pm) including lunch and dinner? For context, carer would be a friend with 2 children of their own.

Many thanks x

My childminder in SE charges £6 an hour so that would be £60. Is your friend a registered childminder? If not I would be paying less I expect but obviously you need to have a chat about expectations

Do they have any qualifications or just babysitting your children?

ceeveebee · 02/08/2018 07:20

Is it for 1 child of yours?
I pay £30 a day per child for a holiday club place for the same hours including meals
I used to pay £100 a day to a nanny for those hours, to look after my two children
So probably somewhere in between?

I'd probably expect to pay about 40 pounds as it's a friend. Wouldn't ask very often though.

B00dyM4ry · 02/08/2018 07:22

As a one off favour - nothing except a bottle of wine and £10 for snack money- as a permanent arrangements I would have to have a think but my gut is about £30-40.

MarthasGinYard · 02/08/2018 07:23

Actually as a one off just a gift and a huge thank you.

MoanaofMotunui · 02/08/2018 07:24

No childcare qualifications etc. It's just for the one day as a work commitment has come up, but I'm totally at a loss trying to work out what would be an appropriate amount as I don't want to devalue the help!x

Ask?

AJPTaylor · 02/08/2018 07:30

Do they want/expect paying or is your dd just mucking in with friends for the day? Could you offer to have hers back?
If not forty quid.

donkeysandzebras · 02/08/2018 07:36

In those circumstances, I wouldn't. I would ask if they are going anywhere and need entrance fees. I would also provide £10 for ice cream money and bring flowers or wine or something when I collect the DC. Even if the parent is a SAHM parent, I'm sure the best thank you would be to have her DC for a day later in the holidays.

FusionChefGeoff · 02/08/2018 07:49

Holiday clubs here are £25 ish but 9.30-3.30 and no lunch.

Full nursery day is £50 8am - pm inc meals so I think £35-40 reflects the length of time but the fact there's no qualifications / it's not their living.

motortroll · 02/08/2018 08:11

I have had people's kids as a one-off in the holidays. I have never been paid and wouldn't expect it!

Maybe just ask your friend how much she wants! If she doesn't want paying give her £10/£20 spends for your kids and don't ask for it back if she doesn't use it and buy her a nice gift.
