If she is maintaining her weight then don't be concerned. They do eat less in the heat much like us! Can you get her weighed and speak to a heath visitor?

Cmad116 · 01/08/2018 21:34

I have physio tomorrow from labour but my husband is going to take tomorrow off and take her down to clinic and get her weighed and speak to HV about her feeding she has at this point been gaining excatly how she should but im worried with her lack of fooe she is going to start dropping weight.

My breastfed baby couldn’t manage a bottle teat when he was little, but Tommie tippee closer to nature ones were much better than any others we tried, and meant my husband was able to give some expressed milk so I could go out sometimes.

Maybe try different shaped teats if you haven’t already?

And as pp said, if she’s not losing weight and seems ok in herself, try not to worry too much.

On and off for the last week but last 3 days she barely touched her bottles i keep offering feeds. She has been bottled fed since day dot with avent closer to nature and she is on the size 2 teets im unsure if i should change to size 3 my mil said maybe she has thrush but her mouth looks fine i think she could have silent reflux from reading on google which my hubby is telling me off for. I just feel worried as she was consistently taking 5oz feeds now isnt ;(

My DS was exactly like this, started around the same age. He had terrible silent reflux. Always gained weight fine because I persevered feeding him oz by oz by oz (he was always 75th centile) through the screaming. I also felt like I was force feeding it was horrible.

Does he have any other symptoms of SR? Arching back, screaming, wriggling when feeding, turning head away, bringing up little mouthfuls of clear liquid, smelly mouth, restless sleeping (lots of grunting etc) just to name a few?

Cmad116 · 01/08/2018 22:59

She has persistent hiccups and coughing rarely sleeps she has been dribbling alot sometimes she is sick after feeds she wriggles like made and keeps trying to almost like roll over onto her side when laying down. I am persistant on feeds and just got her to take another 90ml however she has only total 540ml today. It looks like there is little they can do of silent reflux my hubby going hv tomorrow if they can't help ill book doctors appointment.

Hiccups is another big tell tale sign. I would get your baby to a GP. In my (horribly long) experience GPs are pretty woeful at dealing with SR and will try to fob you off with infant gaviscon. All gaviscon does is make baby constipated. Push for ranitidine, which a GP can prescribe.

If GP fobs you off, push for a referral to a gastric paediatrician. It took me six long weeks and a visit to the GP each week before I refused to leave without one. We saw a paediatric doctor at the hospital who prescribed liquid omeprazole (which GP cannot prescribe) alongside the ranitidine and that, along with using Dr Brown's vented bottles was a game changer for us.

Also worth considering a Cows Milk Protein Allergy. My DS didn't have any allergies luckily for us but CMPA is common in SR babies and can cause similar or more symptoms. You'd need a prescription formula if this was the case (or to cut all dairy from your diet if breastfeeding). There is a group on Facebook if you're on it called 'Living with Reflux' that's UK based and is a great source of information.

Just reread your post. There is lots that can be done to help silent reflux. It's extremely painful for baby, of it is that it needs treating. Don't give up. I found HV next to useless (tried to fob me off with 'that's just how babies eat' and 'it's colic').

Cmad116 · 04/08/2018 19:50

Spoke to HV and she said the gp wont do anything as she is gaining weight how she should ive changed teet size and that seems to have helped her drink a bit more but still persistant hiccups etc. I have gp next week for her so will speak to him then
