Formula question

Hi everyone,

My little boy is 5 weeks, and I am BF'ing with a bottle, I'd say 1 per day. Currently using Aptimil pro futura.
He is suffering with terrible trapped wind, it's so painful for him and it's horrible to watch. Winding as much as possible, and used infacol, gripe water.
Wondering if anyone else has an experience similar with the same formula?

Thank you
Smile

I'd try hipp organic it's a great formula. If you are just doing one bottle try the readymade, it's supposed to be gentler on their tummies ☺️

@lovestea1 @ChiBella23 I agree! We had the same problem with that milk so we switched to hipp organic and never looked back x

This is totally normal at 5 weeks. He'll learn to dare eventually. I did find that stopping formula and giving a bottle of expressed milk instead helped. Otherwise my girls eventually grew out of it by about 10 weeks.

Fart not dare lol

Thank you all. I've bought HIPP combiotic, is that the correct one? Hopefully it makes a difference. I hope this wind eases as it's very frustrating to not be able to do much to help when they are straining, and in pain!
His poo is very runny sometimes, like watery runny. I wasn't sure if that was diarrhoea or not, as all poos are explosive once out.

Was having similar issues, was looking at hipp organic but it seems my local supermarket sells the powder but not the readymade cartons which I like to use when I go out and about. Is it ok to use powder and a diff brand of ready made for when out or is that not a good idea ? Sorry for hijacking thread

lovestea1 · 02/08/2018 15:26

@QueenCharming yep only Asda, Morrison's and SuperDrug stock the readymade. Alternatively you can order either 90mls or 200mls directly from the hipp website. The 90mls are handy if your LO doesn't have big feeds.

Thanks lovestea1

What you are describing sounds really normal for a 5 week old?

Remember that crying is the only method of communication they really have at this age and that it doesn't necessarily mean they are in pain, they might just be tired, or hungry or bored.

ChiBella23 · 02/08/2018 18:12

It's definitely trapped wind, it's straining and red in the face then it's the explosive poo or release of wind. I've had that feeling and it's horrid!!
Ready made bottles are great, I don't shop in any of those supermarkets but good to know 👍🏼

@ChiBella23 no probs, out of interest let us know how you get on with hipp - fingers crossed. My little girl had diarrhoea and bad wind for 3 wks on apitmal completely cleared up when moved to hipp! Hope you have success also x

My DS did this and he was diagnosed as lactose intolerant. The lactose free milk really made a difference - plus we got it on prescription!!

He grew out of it at about 6 months

ChiBella23 · 02/08/2018 20:32

6 months!!

Lb did this too. He was EBF.

It's part of adjusting to their digestive system.

Blaablaablaa · 03/08/2018 12:54

I meant he grew out of the lactose intolerance at 6 months... He stopped being in pain and crying after every feed as soon as he was put on the lactose free formula

ChiBella23 · 03/08/2018 17:43

Ok see what you mean, re; 6 months.
How do I know if it's a lactose intolerance? Confused

Both mine have spent a little while on comfort formula. It's reduced lactose and possibly has some other processing to make.it easier to digest. Makes a huge difference. DD grew out of it before six months and DS is the same age as your baby.

Blaablaablaa · 03/08/2018 18:09

It's runs in DH's family so mil knew what to look for. DS would seems like he was in pain after feeding , he would have loose poos, lots of wind and would be really unsettled.
I took him to the doctors who diagnosed it.
