New job after mat leave

I've recently been offered a new job which is due to start mid August I've been on maternity leave since August 2017.
I'm starting to feel quite emotional about leaving my baby 4 days a week (I negotiated down from 5 days so can't get any less)
She will be with grandparents 2 days, nursery 2 days and with me 3 days.
Do you think I have any right to ask my new employer if they would allow me to do 3 days for the first 6 weeks/2 months to allow me and my daughter time to adjust? I think I should have asked when we were negotiating hours but honestly it's really just starting to hit me this weekend how hard it's going to be!
Do you think it's a bit rude to ask and I should just suck it up and get on with what I've already agreed? Or is it reasonable to ask?

Right ? No, sorry. You might be able to use leave to reduce your working week but it probably depends on your employer and the role how regularly you could do so without affecting the business and others. Will you be on probation initially? Try 4 days and see how it goes. Will your oh be working ft?

My husband works ft. I need to work also for financial reasons otherwise I would happily stay at home.
Right was the wrong choice of word 😂
I can't reduce days out of leave either really because I need them elsewhere.

Some people will say there's no harm in asking, but unless it's known as a very family-friendly organisation, I think it would make a bad first impression, to be honest.

If you're worried about the transition, I'd try to bring it forward instead. I.e. start DD in nursery now, or with her grandparents now, before you go back to work. I'll be back to work 4 days a week in September and have planned an overlap of 2 weeks with DD starting nursery, so that I've got some flexibility to have her there for half days at first, or skip a day entirely if needed.

You've already negotiated and it probably won't be as bad as you think. Try the 4 days and just see how it goes.
