Weaning help?

Hi guys. I've just started weaning my lb. I started off with just a strawberry or some banana in his munchkin feeder for one week (he loved it) and then this past week I've given him 2 oz of sweet potato, butternut squash, carrot, pear and baby rice, apple and some weetabix. He's loved everything so far but I'm confused as to how I know he's had enough food? And also how much food should he be having and how many meals not including the milk? I'm very confused and my son just eats and eats and I'm worried he's getting over fed! PS he has 8oz of milk around 4 or 5 times a day but screams when it's finished

I only asked because you had given strawberries and they are a common allergen and you had given weetabix which isn't recommended before 6 months due to containing gluten. It's just small amounts to start with to give new tastes and textures. It won't start to replace milk just yet

I've got 4dc and they've all been different when it comes to weaning one was so tricky and vomited everything up so u had to go really slowly, two were pretty average I would say.
But one of them was like a bloody seal I literally threw food at him and he caught itGrin
He just loved it from day one, how far off six months is your son?
If it's a short time I would start making him proper meals and fill him up with protein chicken casserole was a firm favourite with mine or whatever your having.
Sounds like you've just got a great little eater.
In terms of how much I used to do a small bowl full and offer some food alongside he could feed himself- cooked carrot/rice cake anything reallySmile

My little girl has baby porridge in a morning around 9am blended sweet potatoes and veg around 2pm and weetabix around 6pm and snacks on risks and toast in between aswell as 3-4 bottles a day

I would offer him as much as he wants. You really can’t overfeed them unless they start just vomiting (highly unlikely, even babies generally know when they’re full).

How many meals is up to you. How many healthy meals a day do you have time to prepare and squeeze in between naps and milk feeds? There’s no reason to rush, my dd only had lunch until she was 7 months, then we added in breakfast and then dinner by 7.5/8 months. I found it was a lot of work making meals we could all eat to start so there was no point hurrying it. But if you have food for him and he’s keen, no reason not to offer it when you sit down to eat.

He'll be 6 months on the 18th August. So far he wakes at 7.30 has his bottle at 8.30 and then after gets baby rice and fruit or weetabix. He then has his 2nd bottle around 11.30/12 and then at 4.30/5 has bottle and then some veg and then his last bottle around 8.30/9pm but he's still screaming starving after 3.5 or 4hours even with the food! I've been home cooking all of his food and the wee pots I use to freeze are 2oz of food each and he gets 1 of them at meal times and then obv at breakfast he has a spoon of the baby rice aswell. He's a big lad and I'm worried I'm over feeding and he's gaining weight far too fast! I'm a FTM and just a little worried and confused about the whole thing.

Also regarding allergies, if he was allergic to Strawberries I would know by now as he's had plenty, and with weetabix well nobody really is supposed to eat gluten are they? Also some people give their babies bread, personally I don't eat bread cos it's super bad for everyone but everyone feeds their baby differently! Weetabix for me won't be an every day thing for my lb I just wanted to see if he liked it.

Thanks everyone.. PS he's never sick, just reflux sick but never throwing up actual milk etc

Why do you say nobody should eat gluten? It's only an issue for those who have coeliac disease or have an intolerance to it. Millions of people eat it with no problems. And how is bread super bad for everyone too?!

Re: food/ milk timings. I used to give milk then food an hour or so afterwards I.e

7am - milk
8am- breakfast
11am - milk
12pm - lunch
2.30 - milk
5pm - dinner
7pm- milk

It meant no huge gaps where there was no food or drink.

Reecex · 28/07/2018 22:24

Well gluten is man made. The human body isn't actually designed to process gluten. Some people can't at all and are celiac. Others can process it fine. I can and I do eat it myself lol, I was just saying, not trying to cause a debate lol.

Does anyone know how much is too much for first stage?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 28/07/2018 22:25

How is it man made? It's a protein naturally present in grains.

Reecex · 28/07/2018 22:30

Oh well, misinformed. Apologies.
