Our DS turned 1 earlier this month and we got him a wooden trike. He can't use it by himself yet but enjoys being pushed along on it and playing with the beads at the back. We also got him a ball pit which he loves.

My son got a few toot toot car sets for his first birthday (firestation, repair centre, extra track and loads of cars). He loves pushing the cars along and pressing their faces as they make different sounds. He's not getting any use out of the buildings at the moment as he just pulls it apart and bashes pieces of the track together, but it will last for a few years when he is more interested in building it all up, and it's something my husband will love doing with him.
