Pocket money in the UK for DS 6 and 8 years old

Hi, we've just moved to the UK and wondering how much pocket money to give our DS6 and DS8.

A straight exchange from what they were getting in the previous country would be 1 pound a week for DS6 and 3 pounds a week for DS8. In theory this would increase by a pound a year.

We ask them to split it up into 'Spending, Sharing and Saving' - minimum 25% each category. Every three months they can get interest on saved money.

Their pocket money is linked to chores, though I am aware of the debates on that one. They also get money from relatives at birthdays, etc.

I've seen threads where people give a couple of pounds at e.g. age ten and so forth. But I'm wondering whether that is because other things are bought for the children anyway? For example, I saw that a Lego magazine costs five pounds (with two figurines). If DS6 was to have to save for that, it would take him at least ten weeks which is a heck of a long time for a kid his age (although no harm in learning to save).

Any advice and ideas welcomed.

I do pocket money every month according to their age. 6yo gets £6 a month etc. It goes up every year

Thanks Hermanfromguesswho, do you mind giving me an idea of what would you expect them to buy with it, and what would you buy for them?

e.g. Should they get all their own sweets or ice creams? Pokemon cards?
