Need to go out while potty training (not ideal I know)

I have a friend coming over tomorrow and we're supposed to be all going out to lunch. Ds2 has been potty training this week (and not really getting very far - but he's over 3 showing all the signs and I want to perservere).

I really don't want to have a stressful lunch worrying about it, but at the same time don't really want to give the mixed messages of putting him back in a nappy.

I was wondering about those nappies that supposedly make them feel wet but still have absorbancy. Are they any good for the occasional trip out? Or are they just going to confuse horribly?

Cancelling the friend is not an option - she's travelling a long way and we've already had to cancel once due to different circumstances.

Hi rubberduck! Dont stress!
Just make sure you take lots of changes of clothes...

Never tried those pants, sorry! I think once you start putting DC in real pants then you just have to keep going, whatever the situation. I remember often having to pull over by the side of the road when potty training DD... and also very vividly her peeing in the cereal aisle of Sainsburys! They had to put up one of those yellow warning signs!!

Have fun at lunch. xx

just bring a potty with you, or invest in a travel potty that kind of has fold down legs - we were given one and I initiallyl thought how silly , but has been great ( we keep it in the car)

It's not that - I don't mind shopping (for example) with potty and lots of clothes, but the thought of wee trickling down the seat in the restaurant doesn't appeal :/

Not a good idea then?

(He'll sit on a toilet out - just won't initiate going to the potty or toilet - have to take him regularly and hope )

Hi RubberDuck, I think you should still go out to lunch and TRY not to worry.

How about getting those disposable changing mats to lay on the chair incase of an accident (lets face it, his clothes will probably soak up most of it anyway)

Then just take a few spare trousers and pants and take to the toilet...say...every 1/2 hour.

The main thing is...don't let it take over eveything, you'll end up stressed and not enjoy yourself!

Good luck

Just wanted to say that it went really well - had one accident (my fault, I let him have a fruit shoot! That seems to go straight through them) and about 5 (successful I might add) trips to the toilet - but that might have been because he was fascinated with the hand driers

The disposable change mat worked wonders thank goodness as the restaurant had fabric chairs...
