My dd 2.5 has ticked all he boxes or so we thought. So I decided half term would be a good place to start before preschool commences again.

For 3 weeks we have sat her on the potty everynight before her bath. She has been happy to sit there for 5 to10 mins whilst we read to her.

Some nights as a bonus she would do a wee and the last night before potty training she did a poo. We were really pleased as I know some children take longer to adapt to passing solids in a potty.

The preschool told me she had even asked to go to the toilet twice last Friday however she did not do anything.

Yesterday was a disaster she was exited about her big girls pants but would not run around just in pants we had to wear trousers.

For some reason she has flatly refused to use the potty cannot work it out. Also refused to sit on potty at bathtime for her stories.

I,m going to try again today but if I cannot get her to sit on the potty I feel I am flogging a dead horse.

How long should I try before I return to nappies I do not want to confuse her.

Thanks

Don't worry about confusing her - if she's not quite ready it would be better to leave it, and try again in say 8 weeks.

She's had a good first try and seems to be quite near to picking it up, but you may have to leave it slightly longer before she is completely ready and more importantly wants to do it.

I found when they are older it is easy for them and can be done virtually over night! Good luck with it and don't get stressed - it's something that they all do at different rates just like walking, or talking

My little one exactly the same, some kids don't like a potty.

We got a kiddy seat for the toilet and a stool and haven't looked back!

We got these but I'm sure there are cheaper ones around. Hope that helps x

She is till quite young, she may just be boreed of the game. DD1 was very tall, and looked so uncomfy on a normal potty so I got a throne one from Argos that played a tune. Very handy as you know when they're using it if you're not int he room
She loved it and still uses it at 3.5
Don't worry about confusing her with nappies. DD1 still has one for long car journeys. In the summer she probably wont mind running around in just her knickers so I bet you'll have it cracked by Sept

Don't force it, you'll put her off.

Don't know why I put Sept, think I equate that with the end of summer
It shouldn't take her too long. DD1 still has the odd accident now tho, esp if she's very busy and forgets to go in time.

Thanks for all the advice.

I think its back to nappies today and will try later in the summer.

Its just goes to show that books that tell you your child is ready to train are unable to predict the behaviour of every child.
