Holiday worries as going to a hot destination with my 10 months old DS!!!

Hi everyone, My DS is 10 months old and during these recent heat waves, I've realised that he hates heat as much as I do. We've had plenty of sleepless night despite having two fans in the bedroom.
My main worry is that we are about to go to a very warm destination on holiday and despite the hotel apparently having AC, I'm still worried how DS is going to cope? Would I be even able to leave the hotel room in this heat? I know I'm too paranoid but very worried if he gets D & V due to the heat.

Any form of positive advice is really appreciated. I know I should have thought about the destination more than I did but every where in Europe is warm anyway.
Thank you all for tolerating my ranting.

I have just come back from a hot holiday with my 9 month old. it was fine. he coped much better than I expected.
we spent much of the day in the pool and also took a mini paddling pool so he could splash around at other times too (villa not hotel though).
he barely wore clothes the whole time aside from uv swim suits when in the sun which we kept mostly wet to keep him cool. he had lots of nappy free time.
I got a thin muslin gro bag as he likes a gro bag for bed but other wise would have slept in just a nappy
and I offered lots of water and cool foods (he completely went off warm meals so ate everything cold). he had more breastmilk than usual too.
we also had a few hand held that sprayed water too which were really helpful for when out and about.
he did sweat loads but he coped really well overall.

hope you have a lovely holiday

I think having air con and a pool will make it much more comfortable.

If you aren't a teacher you could avoid the main summer months until your child is of school age. Perhaps something to consider for next year.

How hot is it? Does it cool down at night? Is it humid? All these affect things.

We live somewhere VERY hot (its 45C today). A.C. makes a massive difference - and in some ways it is easier to be somewhere that is usually hot, as it is set up for it, rather than somewhere unexpectedly hot, as then places arent designed to stay cool. So we have central A.C., tiled floors, small windows. Rather than the UK carpets, big windows, and really good insulation!

If you can adjust the day to get out early, slob around in the hottest part of the day, and then go out again in the evening, it can make a big difference.

Go, make the most of it, keep him out of strong sunlight, and enjoy. Learn for next year to make your 2019 holiday even better.

We have a holiday home in Cyprus. It’s much easier over there, due to AC, tiled floor, pools. We deal with the heat there far better than here.

Agree with PP. Homes here just aren't equipped to deal with heat!

Thank you so much everyone for your constructive advice. I will certainly follow your suggestions and hope for the best. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your summer. Wink

We bought an AngLink usb rechargeable clip on fan for the pushchair from Amazon. Best £14 ever spent. Would definitely recommend!
