Hi all

My 3 year old has a phobia of loud banging sounds, balloons, fireworks etc. She gets really worked up if she hears a bang. We've had to leave parties and shows early and it makes me so sad to think of her missing out. I keep taking her to parties as I don't want to totally avoid it as I want her to get over the fear but I also don't want to traumatise her! Any ideas or tips would be truly appreciated.

Thank you

When my niece was smaller, we made a big fuss about how exciting it was to pop balloons, we all cheered when we popped the balloons at the end of her second birthday party.

I think it’s fairly normal, well I’m hoping so anyway as my DS was terrified of the hoover and hand driers.

Is her hearing ok? I know adults with reduced hearing who can jump at sudden loud noises. If it’s not been checked since birth, it might be worth getting a hearing test. I think you can self refer for this.

Have you got any other worries?

Sounds pretty normal for a toddler, I don't think I'd call it a phobia yet.
