Hiya im a bit concered about my son's speech but maybe in over reacting, he doesn't say mum at all, the words he can say are "ta" most common he uses this for everything he wants in wonderig if that's why he's not learning new words, he can say banana, he can say gone, tickle, sometimes cat, he used to be able to say teddy bear but he won't say it now, does this sound normal? How can i encourage new words? Im trying to teach him but he is so disinterested in what im doing and pays no attention

Don't know if it's related but he only just started walking in the past month too

My ds is pretty much the same. He's almost 16 months, just started walking, says sock, duck, hiya, more, he has been known to say cat, car and banana, but not regularly. He doesn't seem interested, just gestures and says ah ah ah for whatever he wants. I think it's pretty normal, I have two older dc who both walked and talked more than he does at this age, I just put it down to him being laid back and able to get whatever he wants without talking.

My DD is 22 months and still hasn't said anything, she babbles and sounds like she's having a full blown conversation but it's nothing recognisable. We've gone to see SALT recently and she's been assessed and told she has a speech delay. Just been trying a lot of books and talking to her as much as possible (focussing on one word).

My son is the same in the sense he babbles loads like he's speaking some kind of baby language lol

As long as non verbal communication is good I wouldn't worry too much. My son had a big regression when he started walking but he lost all his non verbal communication as well as his verbal and has been diagnosed with autism since. When he had this regression we were told it is common for them to lose some skills when gaining a new one.
