Encouraging potty training under 2

Ds2 has terrible nappy rash to the point of open sores this can happen in less than 10 min from a poo.

Theres nothing we can do apart from cream and very regular changes it's a combination of his poo and his sensitive skin.

The HV suggested potty training but I know he is no where near ready yet no way will I force him into it when he doesn't have any interest and doesn't have any control. Ds1 potty trained naturally between 18 months and 2 so I know what ready looks like.

All that being said I do want to gently encourage his interest does anyone have any good ideas or experience in helping potty training along?

Try joining the Facebook group, EC UK (elimination communication...). Post your situation and you will get lots and lots of gentle suggestions on how to go nappy free, starting from newborns, but lots of parents start much later (thigh earlier than conventional potty training).

I think the advice is usually adding the lines of just buying a potty and looking for cues that your lo wants to go, and popping them on. Or go by timing. If they don't fancy the potty you can also hold them over the toilet.

I've been reading the posts for a few months now but not had much interest from my 1yo. I hope that we can try sooner rather than later though.

It doesn't have to be all or nothing, you can use potty alongside nappies. Put him on a potty at key times, like upon waking, after meals, after coming back from somewhere, after nap, etc. Although I'm not sure how well he'd take to it as a toddler, I started with mine when they were babies.

Could you try a combination of cloth nappies and potty training? Cloth
might be nicer on his skin than plastic?

Just put him on the potty when he wakes, mid-morning, pre-nap, after- nap then before bath?

Also it's summer so let him cruise around the garden/house without a nappy on. Fresh air is best for skin.

Thank you. We have had a potty since he turned 1 he sits on it but as a seat I guess thats a start.

I had a look at the EC I will try with it but I think I may struggle to get my mum on board she looks after him 4 afternoons while I'm at work.

The cloth is a good idea I dont know why it didn't occur to me.
