Do you sleep on a different floor to your baby?

Obviously PFB, we want to move DS into his own room as we wake him when we go to bed, and in the morning with our alarms. We live in a three story house, our bedroom is on the third floor and the nursery is on the second floor. We have a smaller second bedroom that we could move to on the same floor as the nursery but it would be a squeeze.

Does it matter that we wouldn't be on the same floor? 'm being silly, aren't I?

Depends how old I suppose but I would think about whether you could get to him if there was a fire, and whether you could hear him if your monitor failed, those would be my only major concerns I think. Unless you currently go to bed when your ds does then you'll likely be on a different floor to him for some of the night anyway.

The nursery is as at the bottom of the stairs to our bedroom, so If we have our door open and I leave the nursery door open it's close enough to hear even a whisper between rooms if the monitor failed.

Then yes I would if you and dh are happy to do so. He's old enough and there's no reason I can see not too and I say this as the mother to a pfb who still shares a room with her almost two year old. Wink

Funnily enough we were talking about this at work the other day - lots of my colleagues have houses similar to yours and put their babies on a different floor (one did so from 3 months and the others from 6 months +). The reason they were talking about it is saying it's a pain going up and down stairs all night when baby is ill / teething but most have got round this by putting a single bed in the nursery they can crash on during unsettled nights.

Just moved DS at 4.5 months to the floor below. His room is literally at the bottom of the stairs and we leave our door open and his is slightly ajar. We have an apnoea alarm that we can hear throughout the house and the baby monitor has battery back up so if there was a power cut we didn’t know about we are still covered. The volume also adjusts to a high volume so even in the deepest sleep I hear him. Only trouble as pointed out is the up and down the stairs throughout the night. I swear one day I’m going to fall down them as I sometimes wake up with such a startle and jump out of bed too quickly to get to him but hopefully not Grin I am sure you will be fine!
