When does it get better! Sleeping at night but crying all day

My 8 week old is so unhappy. Almost every waking minute she is grumpy and often full blown crying. I think some of it is her guts but Oddly she sleeps at night and will feed fine then. And she will nap fine in the day too. So sleeping isnt the issue. I had to move her to formula feeding 2 weeks ago as my breastmilk totally dried up (probably due to anxiety related to crying!) so any advice on the best formula would be great too. She is currently on HIPP Organic, I moved away from Aptamil because of the bad reviews. Perhaps I should try the Aptamil Comfort formula?

She may have colic, here's what the NHS says about it.

I've heard good things about HIPP Organic and I wouldn't recommend changing her milk unless the HV advises you to do so.

Hey! I have an 8 week old too and our babies are going through their 2nd leap. There is an app you can download for about £2 called 'wonder weeks' which explains when you can expect your baby to be going through their different 'leaps'. At the moment they are experiencing a change in their vision and seeing things more vividly. Shapes and colours are more profound. Less 2D. The app helps to give you a heads up. For now though you can just look at this Google search I found myself when I first looked this up the other day. www.bellybelly.com.au/baby/wonder-week-8-leap-2/

I found the app gives a little more info though. Hope this helps!

I've heard the aptimil formula is making babies ill :( so maybe steer clear from that.

Lucky for you she's sleeping during the night, if she wasn't then you know there is a serious issue. I'm not really sure what will be keeping her up during the day.

But please bare in mind that things WILL get easier as your baby girl gets older. Have a word with your health advisor about her sleeping and crying.

Thanks for the support, I did try a dummy today against my better judgement and it really helped to stop her working herself into a total frenxy. Only one day but I'm feeling slightly more hopeful! And I have just downloaded the app, thanks for that, will be helpful to follow that.

Was in exactly the same position as you not long ago. DS is now 5months old. It sounds like it could be colic? My DS would be miserable during the day whenever he was awake but fed and slept like a dream at night and for naps used to go down with minimal effort. Around 3-4 months he got slightly worse with his daytime naps but the screaming was more contained to just late afternoons/evenings. Still never had a huge problem sleeping at night we are just getting to that point now!

We switched from aptamil to HiPP organic and it did make a huge improvement for us. I would probably stay clear from comfort milks as I know some people say it can cause constipation? I think we had a combination of colic & reflux so have tried various things. Infacol worked from 2 weeks old but found that it stopped working around 6-8 weeks. We then tried colief drops which help break the lactose down in the milk. This made the situation 100x worse but again I’ve heard for some they work. nearly £12 for a tiny bottle so it’s whether it’s worth the chance. We finally settled on gripe water which seemed to help bring the wind up. Sometimes I think it can be psychological that because you think you are giving something that it is helping when it may or may not. But at the time you just get desperate and are willing to give anything a try.

Another thing was switching bottles. We switched to mam anti colic but they also do a dr.browns one which is more expensive and can be fiddly to take apart and clean etc.

Other thing would be that a lot of people will point you down the route of possible cmpa. If you google the symptoms they can be very similar to ‘colic’ and reflux. Sometimes I was close to thinking he must have an allergy as nothing worked but now we are out of the other side I’m glad we persevered and didn’t switch his milk etc.

Massage and bicycle legs can help with trapped wind and bowel movements etc. Swaddling can also be effective at a young age but in this heat it’s probably a little tricky!

Sorry for the essay just trying to think of everything for you! Smile
