Changing child’s name by deedpoll

I want to change my child’s surname to be double barrelled my partners and mine (obviously :) ) she was registered with his surname and his surname is on the birth certificate but I have since decided I would like her to have mine also and he is fine with this. I’ve read I cannot change her birth certificate but I can change her surname by deed poll. does anybody have any experience in doing this ? Will it cause her issue in the future if she has a birth certificate with a different name etc ? Not really sure how it works , Thanks in advance

Also to add she is a baby so there won’t be many records to change just the doctors , she doesn’t have a passport etc

Changed my ds nearly 17 years ago and no issues at all. Always keep the deed pole , bc safe just in case proof is needed.

I think up to 6 months of age you can change her name on BC?

I thought that if the child is under 1 year old you can change it without deed poll. Certainly the case for first names. Just a form to fill in

Hmm - I've had a quick google and surnames may be more difficult to change. Worth looking into just in case though.

@itscurtainsforyou yeah I’ve read it certainly needs to be changed by deedpoll and the birth certificate will remain the same it just means she will also have to show the deedpoll cert along with birth cert... wondering if it’s going to cause her issues Confused I really want to do it though! Which I wasn’t so hormonal when registering her and I could have thought about it properly

In your shoes I would do it tbh. My kids have double-barrelled names and it makes life easier for both me and their dad as no one questions who they belong to!
