Should I be worried? (4 month old)

Sorry if this is TMI but Google doesn't seem to be much help Sad.

My little boy is 4 and a half months old and he eats well (6/7 oz of formula each time on average). In the past he has only ever done 1 poo a day or none, although the last two days he's been doing around 4 a day and its as soon as he's finished each bottle, like it's going straight through him? Also in the last nappy I changed there was one little dark stringy thing a couple centimetres long. I took his temperature and it's normal, he seems ok in himself, if a bit sleeper than usual. Should I be worried or call the GP or do bowel movements just change suddenly in babies? Sorry for the essay I hope I make sense! Thank you.

Babies poops change all the time but if you are worried pop along to see a HV in your local clinic or take to the GP / walk in; they will always be (well at least should be) welcoming and reassuring

I do recall my GP telling me that usually if there is only one symptom then not to worry but if there are two or more that's when its time to see a health professional.

Sorry I haven't direct experience with this exact poop situation (beyond saying my DS used to always poop straight after a bottle, think its something about how drinking helps move their bowels along?)

Are you using aptamil? I've heard some people are having some problems with that just now. My LOs poops change pretty regularly! You could always mention it to your HV but I imagine she'll say just keep and eye out. X

I’m breastfeeding so it may be different but we have a huge range of nappies! When it was illness he also had a fever and a rash, and was really sleepy.

Health visitor is a good idea if you don’t think you need a doctor, or pharmacists are often really helpful for minor worries.

This happened to my dd at around the same age, she was diagnosed with cmpa. She had been totally fine up until that point, when she suddenly had lots of mucus in her nappy, pooing at one point almost every hour (she was a once a day girl before that) and had blood in her stools. She was fine in herself mind.

Defo get him checked out.

@JustWantCake that's helpful about the symptoms, thank you! I will keep an eye out for the next day or so and give my HV a message if not Smile

@Verbena87 thank you for this I will give the HV a message and see what she says, he had a little bit of nappy rash but I'm assuming that's different?

@ginandnappies I am using aptamil yes but the ready made bottles so I'm assuming those are ok? Shock from what I've gathered though it seems normal for poos to change, just caught me off guard a bit as he's always been so constant with everything Grin

Yeah it was a rash all over his body, not nappy rash (though he has had that once and sudocrem wasn’t helping, and it turned out to be thrush - HV helpfully prescribed some canesten type cream and it cleared within 2 days so worth bearing in mind if normal nappy cream and regular airing off isn’t helping).

It's a cows milk protein allergy.... it's nothing to worry about in the long term but needs assessing so that you can alter your diet if bf, or switch to a prescription formula that is diary free. We are on neocate.
