What time do your kids go to bed?

As the title says: what time do your kids go to bed? How old are they? Do they have a strict bedtime or is it flexible.

I have two DC. DD3 goes to bed at 6.30pm and DD4 goes at 7pm. Every night.
This bedtime seems to work well for them. They get up at 6.30-7am and don't nap during the day

NDN kids (4 and 2) stay up much, much later than this. They were still running around their garden at 10.30pm the other night (I was in bed!). Am I being too harsh? Should I let them stay up a bit later in the summer?

We are completely edible it depends what we are doing in the evening, how the kids are behaving, what we have on the next day etc. Generally on a school.day whilst it is flexible that is only by about an hour or so. In the summer and with no school the next day it really could be anytime depending on what is going on. They regularly stayed up past midnight when we were on a camping holiday last year, it was a very small campsite in the middle of nowhere with no noise rules etc.and all the families sat outside while the kids played rounders etc until the early hours, it would really have been impossible to enforce a bedtime.

I'm sure I am really tasty but I am not actually fully edible!!! I meant flexible!

DD is 7. She’s been in bed at 7pm probably 4 times in her life - only when ill.

At 3 she went to bed at about 10-10:30pm. At 5 around 9pm (term time - school effect.)

I couldn’t be doing with an early riser. She’s up at 7:30am for school now. On weekends she’s later to bed and later up in the morning - this weekend it was gone midnight as we were at a concert.

DS is 4 and goes to bed at 7. DS IS 6 nearly 7 and goes to bed at 7.30.

We are quite strict on bed time and they are always in their rooms by 7. Also because we want to get our peace and quite.

I have friends who have two 4 yr olds and they are always still up at 8.30/9 even on a school night which personally baffles me. Just spoke to her tonight on the phone and her DS was having dinner at 8.15pm. Couldn't believe it!

Soubriquet · 09/07/2018 20:44

Both of mine are in bed at 6pm and then are allowed up at 7.15am

They are 5 and 3

PeonyTruffle · 09/07/2018 20:48

My very nearly 4 year old goes to be between 6.30-7, weekends he sometimes stays up later if we're out for dinner.

I am pretty strict on it as when he doesn't get enough sleep, he's a monster and that's not fun for anyone involved Grin

chilly32045 · 09/07/2018 20:49

Just to add we are very relaxed on holiday or if we're at a bbq for example we wouldn't leave early to get them in to bed.

simbobs · 09/07/2018 20:51

Mine are late teens now and are up pretty late. When they were younger, school yrs 2 and 4, they were up until 9pm most nights, as they never really settled if put to bed earlier. They kept this same bedtime until their early teens. If we were on holiday or doing something as a family they had no problem being up a bit later. Friends who had strict, and early, bedtimes for their DC could never have family nights out on holiday, as the children needed to be in bed. You should do what suits you and them.

isthistoonosy · 09/07/2018 20:51

DD3 and DS5 go to bed together around 1900, normally go to sleep around 2000 or 2030 and both get up around 530.
DD3 naps around 20min in the day approx 4 times a week.

Neither seems to need more sleep atm.

HRMumness · 09/07/2018 20:55

My almost 6yo DD is in bed by 7-7:30pm and reads until she falls asleep or we turn the lights out. Usually between 7:30-8pm but sometimes as late as 8:30pm. She takes awhile to settle and we don’t mind too much as long as she is in bed and reading quietly. My 3.5yoDD is usually in bed at the same time but will be asleep in about 3 seconds Grin. Even when she was a tiny BF baby, she would feed and then stop and immediately be asleep.
They had a late night last night due to something we attended (9pm) and my eldest had spectacular meltdowns today. I really notice the difference when they have had less sleep.
We may have the odd night here or there but I think letting them stay up late all the time is shooting yourself in the foot! Having said that I have a friend who allows her 3yo DD to stay up later so she can spend time with her after work but she has a 3 hour nap in the afternoon to compensate.

DD (2.5) goes to bed at 6.30pm and DS (3 months) at 7pm

ArtisanPopcorn · 09/07/2018 21:01

DD 4 is in bed by 7-7.30pm, up anytime between 5am and 7am.

I wish she was both more predictable and less of an early riser.

GreenMeerkat · 09/07/2018 21:04

Thanks for your replies. Interesting to see how varied it is.

We are flexible on holiday or if there is anything 'on' but it doesn't change the time they wake up in the morning, just their mood the next day. Which is why we are pretty strict with it!

DD is 18 months old and goes to bed around 7.15-7.30pm.

I used to be very strict with the routine when DD was a baby but now I am much more relaxed and child led.

CaviarAndCigarettes · 09/07/2018 21:09

Kids aged 4, 2 and 1.
All go to bed at 6pm. All wake up between 6am and 7am. I suspect the four year old wakes a bit earlier but he has a gro clock and doesn't disturb us till 7

nowifi · 09/07/2018 21:09

My 2 year old has just gone down about 8:45pm, I'm pretty relaxed normally and if I try and force her to go down it never goes well and stresses me out even more!

nowifi · 09/07/2018 21:10

Ideal for me would be 8pm til 8am but never happens ever!

InDubiousBattle · 09/07/2018 21:12

My dc are 4 and almost 3 and they go to bed at 7.30. They can stay up later when we're on holiday or there's an event on but in general they're happy and ready to go to bed then.

Lozxx · 09/07/2018 21:19

My one year old goes to bed 7/7.15 every night, we've always been pretty strict with his bedtime routine as he loves his sleep most of the time.

ChristmasTablecloth · 09/07/2018 21:20

10.30 - 11.00pm. They are teens. Better get used to that idea!

rainbowstardrops · 09/07/2018 21:26

When my two were little, bedtime was definitely 7ish.
DD is now 13 and goes to bed around 9.30 on school nights but later at weekends. I really should send her up earlier because she's always so tired but I'm guessing that might be hormones etc.
DS is 18 and goes to bed way, way later than me! Grin

jarhead123 · 09/07/2018 21:45

At 8&10 they go to bed around 9pm

gluteustothemaximus · 09/07/2018 21:49

Late here. They're just coming in from the garden now (nearly 8 and 2).

Teen supposed to go to bed at 11pm.

Love Summer evenings though, and playing till dark.

Why can’t you believe it? That’s pretty normal for us. (I don’t have breakfast till noon.). There are people called night owls......

DrWhy · 09/07/2018 22:03

Nearly 2 year old goes to bed theoretically at about 8ish. In reality that’s when he finishes his bath and starts with the books. He’s generally in his cot with the lights off by 8.30 latest, aim for earlier but usually fail. Asleep by 8.30 is a minor miracle, tonight was 9.40 after over an hour of standing up, lying down, demanding milk, demanding a hand to hold etc. There’s no way I’m wasting my time starting the performance any earlier! Plus we are often not home until 5.45 or even later, we cook then eat dinner together so starting a bath much before 7.30 seems pretty impractical.
