Factor 30 ok for baby or is 50 better?

Hi everyone I'm struggling with keeping ds 10 months sunburn free at the minute. I'm currently using superdrug's own factor 50 roll on cream on him but he's still getting tell tale t shirt lines and some redness, which is worrying me. We have a holiday abroad for our wedding coming up at the end of the month and I'm terrified he's going to burn while we're away. Does anybody have any pearls of wisdom? He's at the crawling everywhere stage so our uv tent is somewhat unused and he wrenches a hat off his head within seconds of it being put on. Confused
I've looked at suncream recommendations and ultrasun keeps being mentioned but from what I can see from their product ranges they only do a family spf 30 or an extreme spf50 which has no mention of it being specifically suitable for children or babies. Is factor 30 ok for a baby or is not enough?
Thank you

I use spf 30 on both of my kids and have done since they were babies.

As long as you are out of the sunshine during the hottest part of the day, try and spend as much time in shade as you can, keep hydrated and apply cream frequently, as you should do yourself, then your baby will be fine

Check how many stars the cream has, that is the UV protection. You can have a factor 30 with 5 stars and a 50 with 3 for example and the 30 will offer better protection from the sun. I also note that some of the cheaper brands offer better UV protection.

I have just bought my newborn superdrugs own kids factor 30 as it offers 5 star protection.. smells really good too x

We use factor 50 on our DD, it's just boots own brand I believe. We also like putting her in a UV suit to give her body more protection from the sun.

I have a ginger baby.

I use factor 50 Aldi baby suncream on him and not one problem. It has a five star UVA rating.

I've even had him out for long periods of time in the carrier on our backs were he's been quite exposed and had no burns... he's not even gone pink.

And best of all... no stains on his clothes!

Thanks all. The one I've been using is superdrug's own roll on cream. It's got five star uva and uvb protection so I thought he'd be fine but there's definite redness on his arm that's burn not a reaction. I'm not sure what to do, it's got me confused.
Thanks

I use the ultrasun 50 on my kids and have since they were little.

We use boots once. It’s meant to be 8 hours of coverage. In a really hot day I would probably re apply after 4 hours but my kids are so pale if they had ‘normal 1 hour reapply’ stuff they would have about 57 layers of suncream in by the end of the day.

needyourlovingtouch · 08/07/2018 08:23

High as possible sun screen and a hat and a sun suit if on the beach etc

Fridaygap · 08/07/2018 08:24

Ulrasun 50 all the way. Dermatologist recommended it to me.

My v v pale kids have never burnt with it on.

HappyPumpkin81 · 08/07/2018 08:24

I would switch to using a cream rather than a roll on. The roll on is maybe not applying a thick enough layer or bits are being missed. I use the Tesco own brand factor 30 on my very fair 8 month old.

Aldi kids spf 50 is brilliant and my niece’s dermatologist recommended it. Get a hat with ties and tie it on firmly.
Get a all in one long sleeved / long legged uv suit - makes it so much easier - you can get them at Sainsbury’s so they don’t have to be expensive
Most importantly go inside / very shaded areas at the hottest parts of the day 12-2 at least.

AppleKatie · 08/07/2018 08:28

I would get a 5 star rated factor 50 spray cream. Do him with a thick layer when naked and top up regularly. Seek out shade as much as you can.

Bobbybobbins · 08/07/2018 08:32

We have tried all the different types and found a pump spray cream gives the best coverage and is easy to run on a thick layer. We tried the stuff that is blue so you can see when it is rubbed in and that was great.

Thank you, some really good points there.

When they were tiny I mostly kept them out of the sun rather than use cream though. So didn't go to playground unless early or late, used a snoozeshade etc. Still don't send them to the beach or playground in the middle of the day at this time of year.

Oh, and UV suits for the beach. M&S do hats with Velcro under chin straps BTW.

Soltan 50 is great. My son's nursery use it too x
