Transition to bed for toddler

Hi, My DS is coming up to 2 years and I am not sure of when she should be sleeping in a bed instead and how to do it. She sleeps in sleeping bags and I have tried to move her onto blankets but she hates them. I also know that she will be a pain to keep her in bed hence why I haven't really wanted to do it before now! Any tips on how you did it and when? Thank you!

We waited until almost 3 as she never made any attempt to climb out. Swapped to duvet at the same time with no problem.

We only made the change once DD was about 2 and a half, and only because we were night potty training and wanted her to be able to get up in the night to go to the bathroom. Otherwise we would have left her in the cot for as long as possible.

It also helped that we waited until she didn't seem to move around much at night. When we made the change we just . . did it, and she's only fallen out of bed once in 6 months. We didn't bother with a bed guard but she's in a cot bed so it's quite low.

I would say if you don't have a specific reason to make the change yet, then leave it for now.

We did it a few weeks after dd turned 2. She was having a bit of a sleep regression and we thought it would help and that she was ready. She loves it and we haven't had any issues with her not staying in bed (yet)

What does she sleep on now?

A toddler bed or cot?

I put DD in a toddler bed & used these www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N4BS8DO/ref=asc_df_B01N4BS8DO53773828/?hvlocphy=9045281&linkCode=df0&hvptwo&psc=1gro-to-bed&hvnetw=g&hvadid=226583581656&creative=22110&hvpone&hvlocint&creativeASIN=B01N4BS8DO&th=1&hvpos=1o5&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl&hvqmt&tag=mumsnetforum-21&hvtargid=pla-423152591038&hvrand=4975162559519636233

Its a duvet cover that zips to the bottom sheet. Argos do them as well.

DD went in a single bed, after 3 years in a toddler bed.

Thanks for the answers so far. I don't think there is any real reason to move her but my mum mentioned she should be in her own bed soon and it put a bee in my bonnet! Always interesting to know what other people are doing.

After 2nd birthday. We kept showing her the new bedroom and her new bed - lucky for us she was moving rooms. She ADORED her new bed and bunny covers.

My youngest was an escapologist by the time he hit 18 months! I bought a single bed with a pull out bed underneath and only ever made up the under bed so it was very short - we had a door gate, extra high and that worked for a while - but he soon learnt to scale that too - thankfully he's 6 now and is great lol
Me eldest is a girl we did the same for her and just had the short bed with the bed side thingy so she didn't fall out - worked a treat - she was in a normal double divan by the time she was 3 as DS came along and needed her bedroom and she had the larger ' spare ' room

Ours went into a toddler bed with guard at 18 months and loved it, we changed to it as soon as she could get her foot over the top rail.

We moved ds when he was 17 months. He wasn't trying to climb out the cot but I knew he'd be so mi h happier in a bed.
He was still sleeping in our room (by choice), so at 16 months we put him in his own room so he could get used to it. Then at 17 months he went in his toddler bed.
He used blankets and the bedding set coverlet in the cot (never liked sleeping bags or anything, don't see the need), in the bed he has a toddler quilt and pillow that he loves.
We never bothered with bed guards as again find them pointless. There is a gate at his door so he's safe. The first few nights we put the old cot mattress on the floor, just in case. But he was fine, he loved it. Again I don't see the point of transitioning by starting with naps. We just went for it and it was the easiest aspect of parenting we've had. He loves it.
I don't see why people wait as long as possible. I couldn't wait to get him in a proper bed.

We tried without the bed guard, but when she was falling on the floor every night hurting herself it seemed a good idea to use one.
