Changing to pushchair at 11 weeks old

So my LO is 11 weeks old and weighs around 14lbs already. We cannot put him in the carrycot due to him being so long. There is no room from head to toe. He is a fidgeting little boy and I feel he will hurt his head by kicking off the foot of the carry cot. I have a Cossato giggle two and have been thinking about putting him in the pushchair but keeping it fully reclined to lay flat. I know he’s supposed to be in the carry cot until he’s 6 months but it’s impossible.

I was just wondering if anyone’s had a similar experience and whether putting a baby in the pushchair will have any impact on his spine. He is a big and strong boy with very good head control.

An replies are much appreciated x

I did with
DS at the same age for same reasons. He’s nearly 2 and currently trying to climb into the fridge so I don’t think it’s done any long term

My dd2 went into a lay flat pushchair from birth. I got an oyster 2 second hand but without the carry cot part and didn’t want to spend £££ on something that would be used for a few weeks.

Exactly the same with our DD. We had a Cruz and she is a super tall (99.8% for height). I was so worried about it but she was fine and when I put it on a slight tilt she was much happier as she reflux.

Pushchairs are perfectly safe to use from birth as long as they lie flat.

emvy · 07/07/2018 15:35

I didn’t even bother buying a carrycot for our pushchair - it’s suitable from birth because it lies flat so have literally put my baby in it from week one. As you say yours does the same, it’ll be perfectly safe Smile

If your DS is too long for the carrycot then you have no choice but to use the pushchair. Try to keep it reclined as flat as possible for another couple of months though.

My son is 7 weeks and we have the chameleon 3 bugaboo and we don’t use the cot (he doesn’t like it) so we used the chair part but keep it in a lying position - perfectly fine!

UrgentExitRequired · 08/07/2018 09:07

With the Bugaboo bee5 you can use the pushchair with a cocoon from birth, that way they can lie flat comfortably. This meant that I didn't bother with the carrycot at all. See if you can get something similar for your pram

I do laugh at these too long for carrycot babies - seriously, they must be contenders for some sort of record!

Move your baby if you wish.

anotherangel2 · 08/07/2018 09:54

gekiort like I said my DD is on the 99.8% for height and was in 3 to 4 year old clothes well before her second birthday. You do get tall people.

EveMoneypenny · 08/07/2018 10:03

DS1 was one of those too long babies. They do exist. He was on the top centile line for length and was too long for the carrycot at 2.5 months (also had a Cruz - I think its carrycot is a bit short). By too long I mean his head touched one end and his feet touched the bottom simultaneously - no choice but to move him. I used the chair on fully reclined mode and also bought a seat liner to flatten it out a bit more and he was fine. DS2 was smaller and I was delighted that he was able to fit in the barely used carrycot until 4 months.

mummastripes · 08/07/2018 10:06

Having exactly the same problem- 98th centile for height! Tried the pushchair flat but he hates it!!

GinIsIn · 08/07/2018 10:09

My DS has followed the 99th centile for height and was still ok in the giggle 2 carrycot until about 4.5 months. I would try and hold out a bit longer as 11 weeks is really little for the pushchair.

AdorableMisfit · 08/07/2018 10:10

My DD was on the 91st centile for length and outgrew her carrycot by 12 weeks, so I moved her to a lie flat pushchair. However my DS is 25 weeks and much smaller thsn his sister was, so I've only moved him out of the carrycot this week as he couldn't stretch his legs out fully anymore. Kids are all different. If your baby doesn't fit in the carrycot anymore, move him.

Clevs · 08/07/2018 10:14

I have a similar problem. My son is on the 98th centipede for height and is too long for the carrycot if he lies flat out (also a Cosatto). It's only because he sleeps in the frog leg position that he still goes in there. He's 13 weeks and outgrew it a couple of weeks ago, so similar age to the OP.
