Has anyone used Ewan the sheep or Ollie the owl to help there little ones sleep? My Dd is 15 days old and I want something to help her sleep better, Which one is better? Thanks

Honestly Ewan worked on my DH but not DS. They are white noise in a sheeps clothing, so you could just download an app or some alpha music.

I've not tried Ollie tho.

We had Ewan and it didnt really help, other than to drive me demented! I did find a white noise app worked well when needed though.

I had Ewen with DS1 and found it a bit rubbish as only goes for short periods of time, I ended up using a white noise app for him which was great, I've done the same with DS2 - would definitely recommend it.

We have Ollie the owl and it really helps. The cry sensor is really good and helpful and it has lots of different settings as well as a night light. If Ollie runs out of batteries we try white noise on our phones but he doesn't seem to like it as much, Ollie must be the right pitch

Ewan really helped my son.x

We have a Ewan but I don’t find it does anything for my DS. I’ve resorted to using a white noise app on my iPad as he responded much better to wave sounds than any of the sounds Ewan offered. Maybe see which sounds baby responds to on an app (if any) and then by a product that you know has the same sound? You don’t want to waste money for no reason.

As an aside, my three year old has just turned Ewan on as he settled down to sleep. He likes the plinky plinky music!

Caz1412 · 08/07/2018 04:47

I have Ewan, it didn’t work at all for the first 3 weeks, I thought we had wasted our money on it as we brought it because of a recommendation from a friend when I was pregnant. Now at 8 weeks it really settles him and I use it to settle him back down after his night feeds, he now thinks his 4am feed is playtime. 😂 but the sheep soothes him back to sleep.

It’s just white noise so maybe try an app before spending on a sheep that might not work?

I don’t have one but know that Ollie has a sensor to reactivate if baby cries, which appealed to me over Ewan. However I believe both only play for a short period at a time.

SoundSleeper phone app is free for sample (30 minute continuous play) and a few quid for full version which plays continually. It’s brilliant and I highly recommend.

In the end though I bought a MyHummy Sleepyhead with Bluetooth app because wanted to be able to leave baby for short periods, and also my phone kept ringing during naptime, cutting out the SoundSleeper app and waking baby up.

It is expensive and eats batteries but also has a sensor or can be played for any length of time you choose up to 12 hours. I like being able to control it from my phone in bed too

Good luck!

Definitely go for a myhummy instead of the ones you're looking at. More expensive but you won't regret it.

Had Ewan with 2 kids and now a few/couple of years later they still have them every night at bed time.
I suppose they associate it with sleep, both only have the plinky plonky music setting.
Would highly recommend, although when sharing a room with us the white house made me irrationally angry for some reason. Think one of them is a bloody vacuum going and it used to really wind me up!

whenyouwish · 08/07/2018 20:07

White noise not White House!

Winenight · 09/07/2018 20:45

Haven’t tried Ollie but we have Ewan. We play the music at bedtime as part of DD’s (6 months) bedtime routine. She likes playing with him occasionally but TBH I’m not sure it’s worth the money, though my friend’s toddler loves Ewan so hoping she will grow to like it more as she gets older.

I have a relaxing yoga sounds app on my phone which plays rain/waves/spa music continuously and is free, so I’d recommend trying that before spending £25 upwards on white noise toys to see whether they work.

Also if LO naps on you in the daytime you can just switch the app on your phone rather than having to get the toy from their room.
