Start of chicken pox? Worried!

Hi, we're due to go on holiday tomorrow morning with our 2 year old and his playgroup told us a few weeks ago that they have had a few cases of chicken pox, so we've kept him home. Now last night, I noticed a small red spot on his back and started panicking! I probably wouldn't have paid any attention to it usually. Now this morning he's woke up and there's another small red spot on his back, and the other is still there.

He hasn't got a fever at all and they don't seem to be itching him in the slightest which is good! Plus I read they usually start on the face?

If it was chicken pox and we saw the first spot last night we would expect it to have lots more spots this morning? I'm thinking/hoping it might be from sweating as he has been sweating a lot in this heatwave!

It usually starts on the trunk, although my DD started with a spot on her forehead.

If the spots develop a fluid filled blister then it’s definitely chicken pox.

You will know soon enough as if it is CP more will appear. Hoping for you that it’s not.
The spots can appear first on the face but also on the head- where you wouldn’t see them. So have a feel round his scalp.

Thanks all, from the first spot how quick does it usually take for it to blister and also for lots more to come?

It took a couple of days for most of the spots to come out when mine had it. Both started off with one spot and then they gradually came out. You will probably be able to tell tonight or by tomorrow morning if it's chicken pox as should start to blister soon. Took about 7 days for them to scab over.

Fingers crossed for you it's just a heat rash.

When my ds got chicken pox he went to bed that night the next morning I got up started helping him to get changed and noticed a fluid filled spot on his neck. Then checked his back and tummy and there were about 6 spots .

Not all of them blister like though. Then he ended up getting new ones throughout the week until they eventually crusted over.

Hopefully since no more spots have appeared it’s not chicken pox

4 children and every one of them started with spot around neck, possibly could be the poxs if so you will know within s few hours as spots appear before your eyes

How many weeks ago? CP takes up to 3 weeks to develop from exposure, both mine were about 2 weeks. First noticed a spot on the chest for one, the back for the other, then the next morning a few more, then they started blistering. Neither had fever or itchiness until later.

DS had first spots on chest and DD around her nappy area. They both only got a few spots the first couple of days and then ended up completely covered by the 3/4th day. The blister will form within a day or 2 from memory so if they aren’t blistered in the next 24hrs and no more appear then you might be safe.

Thanks all, well it's now 10.30 and the 2 spots I saw have disappeared and there's nothing else...part of me is wondering if I've imagined it Blush . Been so worried about it!

So looks like a false alarm :)
