My dentist told me this week not to worry, as long as they only have it at bedtime, and its off them at the age of around 4.

My plan for dd (16months) is to take it off er to give to santa when she is 3.

Watch this space

did your dentist say he/she would do it by her/himself?

But surely your DD still has her milk teeth. I would really worry if her adult teeth were comming through, and she was still sucking her thumb, but she's not.

Think about how many hours a day she has her dummy.

My DD doesn't actually suck it once she's asleep at night, sif she sucked it all night I would be more woried about her teeth.

Cn I be really nosey and ask how long you breast fed for, just because you are in America, and I wondrer if atitudes over there are different.

ha!ha! funny you should ask....because Americans do think differently, I have stayed with this website!!! I have found very little support in that field here at all....even amongst family memebrs.
I am still bf....she turned 3 last week. We do one feeding a day and just today decided we'll let her self wean.
Folks here only bf until 6,..if at all.....it's sad!!

No - I think the idea is that we can take it off her.

I only give dd hers when she is naps during day, when she is sick, and on a night to get to sleep.

If it was up to dd she would have it all day.

She hates the car seat, but I refuse to let her have dummy and currently put up with her wingeing all thru the journey.

I personlly LOVE my dummy for settling dd, but HATE the dummy in her mouth for no reason during the day.

until 6 months I meant

lillymolly: I see......I guess I haven't been as disciplined as you

I do think you have to be tough!

Is your dd not at an age where she can understand what you are doing? therefore bribery and corruption can surely work

BellaVictoria · 25/05/2007 22:59

ha!ha! She can understand....at times too much!!! she's 3 bribery & corruption do work with her though

Bribery and corruption are great tools when kids don't know why or what and the best thing is they don't remember

LynetteScavo · 26/05/2007 00:10

lilymolly, how do you get dd to sit in the car seat without her dummy? My dd just won't sit down with out it. Once I pop her dummy in she goes floppy and I can do up the straps.

elsieanjoanne · 26/05/2007 17:00

have you tried telling her you are going somewhere nice and if she needs dummy to get in her seat she obviously doesnt want to go with you! my sis found this worked with my nephew!

honeyapple · 26/05/2007 21:54

My DS had a dummy at bedtime until he was 6 ... what a terrible mother I am, tis true...

Anyway, by this stage the only thing that worked was cash. He got a pound a night for 2 weeks! Daylight (or rather moonlight) robbery.

BTW his teeth are fine. I think my DD will have more trouble as she is an infamous thumb sucker at 4 yrs old.

Dont worry Bella!

honeyapple · 26/05/2007 21:55

Sorry, just to say, what is wrong with her having a dummy occasionally if she likes it?
