Morning all!
I’ve been told to give little one some water with his porridge (by his specialist). Can anyone recommend a sippy cup please as there are so many different ones!

Thank you! Flowers

Might depend how old he is but we get on the the 360° cups that are designed not to spill, my daughter took to them quite young but might not be what you want. Is it a free flow cup or a valved one that you're looking for? We went through several kinds before trying the 360.

We also tried a few different types before settling on the 360.

Sorry forgot to say he’s 6 months old

We also use a tommee tippee water cup which has a folding spout (non spill but not to the same degree as the 360°) but I think it was suitable from 7 months (it's free flow) but my daughter got on better with that than any of the valved ones. It might just depend what he takes to.

Havetothink · 03/07/2018 09:29

You can just use a regular cup and just give him little sips until he's ready for something else. I don't particularly recommend any of the valved cups as in my experience my daughter couldn't use them and they're more of a pain to clean.

Bobbiepin · 03/07/2018 09:32

DD (8 months) is currently using a tommee Tippee sippy cup with the fold down spout as that's what's used at her nursery and I want her to be confident using it before she starts. I'm trying to get her on to a 360 too but she will drink from a normal cup if I hold it.

Smellybears · 03/07/2018 09:59

I’ve just bought him a nuby 360, it says from 12 months on it though??. I’ve seen munchkin trainer cup that’s got a spout that sticks out. Also nuby grip n sip?

Tommee tippee explora trainer cup too. God there’s so many different ones!

Just found a munchkin 360 in asda. They’re meant to be better for teeth aren’t they rather than a spout?

OP posts:
Smellybears · 03/07/2018 10:31

The munchkin 360 says from 6 months

Don't over think it OP. Just get one, it'll prob work. If it doesn't, get another. We just bought the first one we saw, impulse buy in Tesco. It did fine. You'll drive yourself mad with all the options.

Thank you pebblespony! I’m such a flapper! FTM and haven’t got a clue 😂

I know. There's too much choice!

Smellybears · 03/07/2018 13:12

Can I ask about how long the water has to be drank? I know that with formula once baby has had some then it has to be consumed within an hour. What’s the deal with water?

OP posts:
Pebblespony · 03/07/2018 13:27

It's not the same as formula as it can't go 'off. We used to boil some water and leave it to cool and give her that. Maybe change the water every meal and clean the cup. They can get pretty messy.

Pebblespony · 03/07/2018 13:28

From about 9 months she was just getting freshly drawn tap water.

MagicFajita · 03/07/2018 13:31

My son found the munchkin 360 cup too tricky to use , he likes the avent easy sip spout cup though and took to it immediately.

Smellybears · 03/07/2018 15:09

Just asked the doctor as I was in there anyway what age to give tap water and he said from six months is fine then said about boiling it and cooling it in the fridge. So I’m not sure which to do now?!

OP posts:
Pebblespony · 03/07/2018 15:46

Maybe boil water every night and put it in the fridge, give her water from it the next day and boil more the next night? To be honest, I wouldn't worry. DD is 11 months and is getting it unboiled from a well and is fine.

Caterina99 · 03/07/2018 15:57

My kids have only ever had water straight from the tap (or I assume bottled water if we happened to be out somewhere). I apply the same hygiene rules as I do for myself, empty it out if it looks a bit gross, new cup every day, but I don’t stress about it. I started around 6 months just giving sips with meals.

DS (now 3) took to a straw cup right away and then we had the 360 cup for milk from around 11 months. Tip - don’t put milk in a straw or spouted cup if you can help it - such a pain to clean. DD is nearly 9 months and couldn’t work out a straw cup so has a regular spouted sippy cup and I keep trying with the 360

Smellybears · 03/07/2018 16:08

Thank you for your advice Smile I’ve booed some water and put it in the fridge, I was boiling the kettle anyway so wasn’t a problem to put some in there.
I’ll try him with this 360 cup and see how it goes. That’s what I don’t like the sound of with spouts, they’re a pain to clean apparently. Everything really is trial and error with babies!

Tap water is fine in the U.K.

The 360 cups are not recommended by most dentists. I like the tommy tippee cups or the small open ones that are like shot glasses.

dementedpixie · 03/07/2018 16:21

We used the tommee tippee first cup which has a fold down spout. Can also be used with the lid off. You can use tap water as a drink from 6 months so you don't need to boil it

KimchiLaLa · 03/07/2018 17:01

Sorry to hijack but My DD doesn't like the TT free flow or 360. What else can I try? She enjoys drinking out of cups (but obviously the water goes everywhere) so we need another option that meets us halfway.

It's been a real issue in the heat so I've just let her drink from the TT with the lid off and let the water go everywhere, as at least some is getting in her.

Pebblespony · 03/07/2018 18:58

Thanks to the poster for the tip about not putting milk in a spouted cup. I hadn't thought of the cleaning issue.
