One year old- how many daytime naps?

Up until a few weeks ago my little lad was getting up around 7, sleeping 10-11 ish and 2-3.30. Then hes been in bed for 7.30 ish. Over the last few weeks that afternoon sleep has been a struggle to get him down for, and then when its taken ages for him to drop off hes then woken later, and then taken ages (eg a whole hour!!) to settle at night. Hes not upset or anything, just wants to be awake, and doesn't seem so tired! Do most babies this age still have 2 naps in the day? And when did you drop them down to just the one? I tried today to drop the morning one, but itmeant he had lunch at 11 and fell asleep in his highchair!!! Very cute but not really what I had in mind!

Why not let him have the morning sleep and have dinner after? My dd (17mth) sometimes has dinner at about 11:30 and goes to sleep after, if it suits you better you could try giving (healthy) snacks in the morning and going out (park etc) then something little at 'lunch' before bed. Really I think they stop themselves when they're ready, does he need the afternoon nap or is it a habit now? You could always put him to bed earlier in the evening if you do drop the afternoon one.
Golly, sorry I'm rambling, but I hope you can make some sense of it.

MY ds (now 2.5) started to drop one of his naps at around this age. But dropped his afternoon nap, he has always been more ready for his morning nap, and whilst people kept telling me that "most children drop their monring nap and just nap in the afternoon', i thought it better to go with what suitewd him rather than what other people thought was the 'norm'
I just let him sleep on longer in the monring for a couple of hours then didn't bother with an afternoon nap. he was then ready for bed at 7pm.
Even now he still has 2 hours from 11am til 1pm.

oh and meant to say you can then do lunch a bit later at 12.30ish and just keep him going in the morning with some raisins or something.

my DD is 17 months and wakes at 6.30-7 am she then naps at 12.30 till 2pm and is in bed for 5.30-6pm and sleeps through.
At weekends she tends to have a morning sleep as well as pm sleep if we are not doing anything
