Switching to hungrier baby milk at 6 months old?

Hi, my 6 month old is extra hungry at night time, he is draining 7oz every hour or hour and half during the night.. I have tried to up his milk but he refuses it and will only drink his 7oz. He does have a bottle before bed but still wakes up every hour for another, and yes I have tried to comfort him and he just screams until he gets his bottle. I have just started weaning him and he has porridge for breakfast a piece of puréed fruit for lunch & puréed veg for dinner.. he clears his breakfast and lunch.. and eats only little of his dinner. But has regular first infant cow and gate formula inbetween feeds and after. He usually has his meal then has a bottle around an hour or so after. I have just bought one tub of hungrier baby milk in hope that it will help him feel more satisfied at night time, is this ok? He has struggled with constipation in the past so that’s what would be a worry for me. Thanks

I had this. Was recommended by HV to feed some baby porridge before bed. It did the trick.

Have you tried upping his food if he won't take more milk? Increase the amount he is taking in then? Try and get as much food and milk into baby during the day so he's likely to go for longer during the night

I was told by HV to avoid hungry baby milk at all costs because it causes constipation and stomach problems

The food is all fruit and vegetables try introducing some protein

My advice is to go the other way. I’d give him solids just once a day, he’s only 6 months old. Pick the time that suits you best and give him bottles for the rest of the time, he clearly needs them.

The current NHS advice is to move to offering solids 3 times a day between 8 and 9 months so there is ansikyely no prob,em with reducing his solids intake Smile

Try something with a higher nutrient density, ie with more fat and and protein than fruit or veg purée and that should reduce his night time hunger.

Mashed avocado (or avocado fingers), cooked chicken with his veg, or chicken strips as finger food, toast soldiers with butter or peanut butter.

Sorry i forgot to add that he does have meat with his purées most days.

And I have tried to give him more food he refuses it.. and so I have to give him more bottles.. although he will only drink the 7oz and no more and then cry for another around an hour or so later.

He's perhaps not ready yet

I'd say try the hungry baby formula. If he's having fruit purees the constipation shouldn't be an issue. Also, does he have water? that should help too.

Havetothink · 01/07/2018 09:16

Maybe he's thirsty, it is hot, could cooking him down a bit help?

Havetothink · 01/07/2018 09:17

Cooling

Thanks for your replies, Yes he does have water but only around 2 or 3 ounces and since we’ve had the hot weather he’s slept in a nappy with the fan on so he is kept cool, also it has been going on a long time before this weather. I’m just lost as to what to do/try with him, he has lots of bottles but still seems to be hungry, not so much in the day but at night he won’t stop crying until he’s fed. I am thinking about trying to hungrier baby milk just at night times but I am just worried it will affect him as he is on regular formula in the daytime and it’s ok in the day as he has his purees too.
